Air Refueling Procedure?

Post by Rightlane44 » Sat Feb 01, 2014 11:50 pm

Hi,
Using Normal Tanker Mode for air refueling, following the POH the best I can, I meet all the parameters,
also pressing ctrl- shift- C (shoots off flares) and still no fuel is transfering. After a little while
the tanker lifts its boom, which I interpret as a shoot me down signal.
I'm just not getting it. I cant find any detailed info on the exact procedure.
Can anyone help me?

Ken

Dunno where you got the Ctrl Shift C thing for refueling from....

here is how I do it

Before Loading Tanker

Make sure the 3 Fuel transfer switches on the left console are in the NORM (ie middle positions)

Master Arm On
Radar On
Radar Mode RWS

ARMT page on left MFD
A/A RDR page on right MFD

AIM-9 selected

Altitude Less than 25000MSL (use radar altitude)(like...FL245)

Load Tanker

Select SS mode on radar and lock up tanker

Open Refuel Port

Get into near pre contact (anywhere between 1 and .5nm behind tanker)
Master Arm off
Radar Off then Standby

Refuel

Break Away
Close Refuel port
Master arm and radar on with AIM-9 selected
Shoot tanker down
Carry on journey

Thanks very much Jon, I've shot a few down already so I'm surprised
they even send one when I request tanker.

"Dunno where you got the Ctrl Shift C thing for refueling from...."

That came from page 31 of the Milviz F-15E POH under
Air Refueling System:

 Signal “ready” by engaging the FSX command “Cowl flaps (close incrementally)” and if inside the Normal Tanker Mode parameters, or physically latched to the boom in Pro-Tanker

By default my Cowl flaps (close incrementally) Is ctrl shift c. No problem though, the flares look pretty cool :D

Thanks again,
Ken

That looks like a mistake that will need to be removed. It is automatic.

I worked with KC-135 crews a few years ago…they get really perturbed when you shoot them down after refueling from them…no sense of humor I guess…just say'n.

I tried it like that and it works fine. then i tried using the method described in the manual with a slight alteration. instead of using the key listed in the manual, i just closed on the tanker using the autopilot and the F2 and F3 keys after using the throttle lever on my joystick. The tanker speed is about 270 KIAS or so. You think you match the tankers speed but then it moves away from you. ""Your speed should be about 285 to 295 KIAS when closing in on the tanker. the mid position of the throttle of the Joystick. use the F2 and F3 keys to adjust your airspeed when closing in on the tanker"". when in the position described in the manual just open the refueling door and refueling should start up immediately. once it is completed you can continue on your journey without having to shoot the tanker. The Stuff in the double quotes should work as well in the Pro Tanker Mode too. If this is tried by someone let me know if it works and what you think of it.

PS I tried to maintain position directly behind the tanker.
