Some Tacpack Issues

Post by Panny » Wed Aug 31, 2016 9:23 am

Dear All,
I've been trying to use the new F-4E Tacpack but I'm getting some issues with it which are preventing me from fully enjoying it. The issues seem to be coming out of MVAMS more than anything else. These issues have come out of me trying to do Dive Toss bombing.
1. The first thing I've noted is that every time I change the controls the trim(set in the MVAMS) flips, such that nose down trim becomes nose up, and vice versa once some other control is changed.
2. The radar azimuth and range cursor I can't seem to be able get working on the Thrustmaster Warthog, so I can't control the cursor on the radar scope unless set on the keyboard.
3. Despite checking the controls on Tacpack Manager, when I attempt to drop bombs, they won't drop. So far I can't fire anything.
I see the MVAMS has a lot of potential but is somewhat frustrating right now and support would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

Just tried the air to air stuff. Gun, Sidewinders and Sparrows all work including radar modes, except the aforementioned issue of controlling the cursor on HOTAS instead of keyboard.
Will see later if with bombing I'm doing something wrong, though it seems it may be an issue with the pickle?

Will see what I can figure out regarding the trim. I don't have a HOTAS so some of these things were a bit difficult for me to debug and test.

Regarding the radar cursor, are you using the axis commands?

You made sure you didn't set the pickle button by accident in the AMS to anything? May I see a screenshot of your weapons control panel in the cockpit?

It's just somewhat odd the trim inverts itself randomly.
No I was not using axis commands, I set it to buttons. It works on the key board, but not on the throttle switches, although MVAMS does acknowledge the control.
The pickle is not allocated to anything within MVAMS.
I'll take a picture in a minute.

Well the pickle does work. It is just for some reason I have been attempting to do Dive Toss and that's when the bombs fail to release.

What is interesting however is that when I do press the pickle in dive toss, the bombs do not drop, but the flight director on the ADI jumps.

Working as designed. Dive toss is an automatic release mode. Look up the TACPACK tutorial video on dive toss functionality. You must lock the ground blip in A-G mode on the radar, put the pip on target and press and hold pickle. Keep your wings level and pull out of the dive and the bombs will automatically release. You don't need to keep the pip on target while holding the pickle. The range to the target is stored in the weapons computer the moment you press the pickle button and it uses that to determine when the bombs will go off. The flight director is there to help you keep your wings level and also correct heading changes.

As for the radar cursor, you made sure the radar was not in VI mode? It needs to be in B/PPI-Wide or narrow.

Dear Jonathan,
Thank you for the clarification on Dive Toss. I had been watching the video but had not realised that was the case that it was released out of view of the target.

Absolutely, I can get the cursor to move etc and it is in the correct mode. However now for no discernible reason, the cursor won't appear, even when not in VI mode.
That said, the trim works properly again.

Here is an image showing that despite the radar settings there is no cursor.

You sure you haven't moved it off screen?

I tried moving the controls for the cursor to no response so I'm fairly sure. I'll check again.

It seems to me that when I put the controls onto the throttle, either I cannot control the cursor(it doesn't move) or it isn't there. However if I map the keyboard to the cursor then it works.
SO now I have dive toss working which is good.
That said mapping the throttle would be preferable, so I'll keep looking.

What happens if you map it to the hat switch on the throttle instead of the mouse axis?

If I map it to a hat switch then it doesn't respond outright.
To counter this I've used FSUIPC to map the hat switch to keyboard controls and it now works.

That said I feel the MVAMS needs a little refining since there are some issues with it.
It doesn't seem to save things correctly and messes with controls slightly.
