Gravel kit not saving in mvams

I'm having trouble getting the gravel kit to save or "stick" so you will via mvams.
I can select it, save as default, go to another paint and go back to the previous, and it will be unchecked again.
As such I can not get the gravel kit to appear on the aircraft in sim.
Any ideas to get it working?

If you check your 732 aircraft cfg time and date stamp, does it change when you save default?

Yes, it does.
The plot thickens: when I do the gravel kit in combination with weather radar in mvams, it shows in sim. standalone it doesn't take over.

If you open the aircraft cfg in notepad and hand edit the flightsim entry for the specific livery, setting the gravel_kit entry to true, and the panel entry to s77, what happens?

After doing that plane loads up with cockpit without WX and with gravel kit
