Cockpit lighting issue

Post by anylanding » Mon Jan 07, 2019 5:27 pm

My vc cockpit is dark except for the backlit letters and numbers. I am running FSXA, Win 7 pro 64, and build MV_B737-200C_v4.180823. Any ideas on how to fix this?

There are SIX knobs that control the cockpit lighting. Are you checking all of them for proper lighting?

I count 9. One each sidewall, two on the main panel in front of the pilots yoke, one in front of the copilots yoke, two on the rear of the center pedestal, and two on the overhead. I have rotated them all fully clockwise and fully counter-clockwise. They dim and brighten the backlit numbers. They have no effect on the on the rest of the vc.

That means the cockpit lighting service isn't running. Is your FSX set to run as admin? As in right click, select properties->Compatibility->Run this program as admin?

Double checked, yes. Milviz Lighting Service is running in the Task Manager.

I count 9.
I forgot about the two overhead controls. The one on the copilot's side is a clone of the panel light on the pilot's side. It does take a few seconds for the lighting to actually come on especially if the sim is being stressed by too high display settings.

As Jon noted however, it does sound as though the lighting service is not being loaded. He knows more about that than I do, since he coded that module.

Confirm there is only one FSX.exe in the task manager? And the double check yes is regarding the run as admin?

Sorry for not being clear. Run as Administrator is checked for FSX. There is only one instance of FSX.exe in Windows Task Manager.

I get a missing texture alert when I load the vc for "$b737_WX", "$INT_TG_1", "$INT_TG_0", and "$C310_VC_05" which is strange because they are dynamic textures.

Now something is most definitely amiss, since none of those $... dynamic textures are called for in the FSX panel.cfg file.

The only one that's even close is $B737_WxRadar

Are you running the latest release MilViz_B737-200C v4.180823 ?

Yes I loaded MV_B737-200C_v4.180823 yesterday.
The report above I was loading the CanNorth Paint with panel=s77
I just loaded the Piedmont paint that the aircraft.cfg tells me uses panel=WX and got this:

Failed to create ASN Texture
Failed to create ASN Shader Resource View

Failed to load texture
$B737_L_ANN1
$B737_VC_OVHD_3
$B737_VC_OVHD_7
$B737_VC_CB
$B737_VC_OVHD_7
$B737_VC_OVHD_8
$B737_VC_OVHD_5
$B737_L_ANN2
$B737_VC_OVHD_4
$B737_VC_10
$B737_VC_OVHD_1
$B737_VC_OVHD_2
$B737_VC_OVHD_9
$B737_VC_ANNC
$B737_VC_ANN2
$B737_FMS
$B737_WXRADAR

Okay, that tells me that FSX itself is almost certainly at fault, as all $... textures - being dynamic - are generated by FSX itself. I believe that a complete reinstall of FSX should solve the problem, but there may be other methods that are less dramatic.

Do any of the default aircraft fail to create and render the $... textures?

I loaded each aircraft I have installed on my system. I loaded default, payware, and freeware. I loaded the aircraft in external and then moved to the vc. Then I also loaded the aircraft directly in the vc.
Of all the aircraft tested I got a total of one hit on the missing texture alert.
It was a TDS model. It was a $ dynamic texture and it was referenced in it's exterior model but not in it's interior model or it's corresponding panel.cfg.

Wow! I just looked at the artwork in the nightlighting folders. It is absolutely beautiful!
I really hope to get the cockpit lighting working on my rig.
Nice Job.
