In the Milviz King Air and in other Proline 21 implementations the CLR/DEL keys deletes the previously typed character and acts essentially how the backspace on the keyboard would. On the P180 upon pressing the CLR/DEL key the entire line is deleted after an ~1 second delay. Is this how the keypad should fuction?

There are subtle differences between the PL21 in both aircraft. I do not remember this being discussed but the devs did try to implement the differences between the two.

I've done a bit of reading & through trial and error playing with the FMS. The "P180_Avanti-FMS-3000_Guide" (found online) says "push and release the CLR DEL key to backspace one character at a time ... or push and hold the key for more than one half second to clear the entire scratchpad at once." The FMS works exactly as described in the P180 if you are using the FMS in a 2D window... When using the FMS in the VC the CLR DEL key appears to be performing both functions; deleting the previous character and then ~1 second later clearing the entire scratchpad.

Good catch , it would appear you are right. It functions the same for me as you. Works ok in the 2D panel.

Also related to this, you cannot delete a waypoint or leg in the VC, because when you press CLR/DEL you get "DELETE" in the scratchpad for maybe a quarter of a second, and then it disappears before you have a chance to press the left LSK for the waypoint you want to delete.
Oddly, if you pause the sim, then the VC gauge will let you delete a waypoint. Or you can use the 2D popup.
