Pitch on final

Post by Emi » Thu Apr 01, 2021 10:05 pm

I'm having quite some problems flaring the Avanti and not landing it on the nosegear.
My Pitch on final is usually somewhere around -5° using flap full and 120kt approach speed.
In the flare I pull the power off at about 30ft and start bleeding off speed. However even at some 100kt it still gives me zero degrees pitch, leading to nosewheel landings unless I flare excessively long until it finally settles down somewhere between 85 and 95 knots.

Furtheremore I find the pitch angles with the flaps down pretty low, when extending flap full at about 140kt while decellerating I need up to minus seven degrees of pitch to stay on glide.

Am I doing something wrong here? Looking at Videos on youtube at least it doesn't look like the pitch would be *this* low. But well, whatever youtube is worth... Any advise?

If I only pitch up slightly I land on the nosewheel with a negative pitch. Am I supposed to do that in the Avanti?
It doesn't quite look like it is build to take the stress of the impact.

Try slowing down to around 100 knots and very slight pitch up. Almost landing flat.

Seems like on takeoff the nose is pitched down a bit also due to the canards. I believe that this is how it works for the real world.

Thank you, the Pitch on final is much better this way! Is it normal procedure to fly at 100kt on final though? I always read everywhere that it should be flown at 120 in final.

I have heard 120 before also. Unlike the KA we were unable to get input from a real world operator of this aircraft, so some things may not be perfect.

Info on performance etc is very hard to come by.

That's really a pity.
Of course it's not a good reference, but on several youtube videos it really looks like the pitch on final should be about -2°ish with the speed at 120kt.

If the current pitch is guesswork (no offense!), can it maybe adjusted to match what's visible on those videos?

I'm totally aware that videos are no good source, but if you don't have one either they're probably better than nothing.

I see pitch in close to 10° on final

Also in cruise the pitch is slightly negative. Never have seen that on a plane. Maybe it is because of the three wing design.
