Propeller pitch behaviour

Post by stefano.biasiotti » Tue Apr 21, 2020 12:12 pm

Good Morning,

I find a different behaviour between the DHC3 turbo and the PC6T
In the DHC3 I can and I have to set the right pitch in relation to my flight phase (take off, cruise, altitude) to optimize the fuel consumption.

In the PC6T the pitch is always automatically optimized to 1950 rpm (about)
It seems that the pitch lever automatically moves to get the right pitch in the different phases.

Is it normal?
thank you
Stefano

Hi,

The Pilatus propeller performance is optimized at 2000 rpm for all phases of flight. However, minimum governed RPM is 1650.
You can check in this image:

Left side is Prop Lever at max forward position (2000 RPM) and right side is at minimum position (1650 RPM) just before entering feather zone.
Then Prop Lever may be moved to any position beside the amber stripe, but won't be optimal.
