HSI Course Deviation Indicator

Post by Bruce R » Fri Jun 21, 2019 5:56 am

I'm running W10, P3D V4.5HF. I purchased the PC-6 when it first came out. I have the radios set to Flight1 GTN750/650. When a flight plan is loaded, and when in flight, I've noticed the HSI course deviation indicator does not indicate the next waypoint. When I first turn the GTN750 on, the indicator moves but as soon as I have entered a flight plan it points to north. It doesn't move from that position.

I have downloaded SP1. This does the same thing.

With SP1 installed I have had two CTD in a row. Event Viewer showed both were KERNELBASE.DLL ERRORS. They were both at ORBX Hervey Bay (YHBA). One was while I was programming the GTN750, and the other was immediately after I just started taxiing after programming the GTN750. I then started a third flight at nearby ORBX Bundaberg (YBUD) with no problems (except with the HSI).

For your information.

I noted the same thing about the GTN 750/650...
SP1 not installed.

There are HSI units that adjust the course automatically when the GPS changes it, and some (especially older) units do not. So you will have to adjust the course manually. In any case that behaviour may be changed within the GTN config tool.

Sorry if I misunderstood but I don't think so...

In the GTN configurator tool the Link CRS and Auto CRS options are "yes" both and they do not work as indicated. The HSI does not adjust the course automatically when the GPS changes it.

F1GTN Complete here.

Currently the HSI won't adjust the course in GTN, as the AUTO/OBS button is inoperative. It will be operative for the official SP though.
Then, when CDI in GPS and OBS in AUTO mode, course needle will automatically adjust to the next wpt bearing/trk in GTN/Milviz/Rxp units when a Flight Plan is active; OBS knob becomes inoperative in this situation.
When CDI in GPS and OBS in OBS mode, course arrow can be manually positioned through OBS knob, however:
- In Milviz units, it will have no practical effect as the course suggested/followed will not change following OBS position.
- In GTN units, to enable course steering by OBS position it is necessary to enable CDI option within GTN's MAP mode.

When CDI in VLOC mode, AUTO/OBS performs the same and course arrow must be manually positioned to indicate the course to steer.

In GTN units, if switching from AUTO to OBS, then moving the course arrow and after than switching back to AUTO will NOT reposition the course arrow to the DTK. For that to happen, just switch GPS button to VLOC and right back to GPS.
