Hi Chuck Yes, the freepanel - tried both with & without WX. Definitely the simple autopilot. Chris

The "Freepanel" is populated with default sim gauges. You are free (pun intended) to use whatever avionics you wish, but are responsible for placement and suitability for use.

Hi Thanks for your reply. I would like to bring your attention to the following paragraph from your sales description of the Turbo Otter on your own web site.

Highly Detailed KAP 140 Autopilot
The DHC-3 Otter includes our custom coded, very accurate simulation of the venerable KAP 140 autopilot. Faithful to the original, from the font used to the replication of servo drives on the trim wheels and the yoke. The logic used in the KAP 140 has been carefully replicated to deliver one of the most realistic autopilot simulations available. A separate manual for the autopilot has been included.

Can you tell me where it says this autopilot is only available if you purchase alternative avionics? The free autopilot is not the KAP140, but a standard item from FSX or even FS9 & earlier. I await your comments.

Regards, Chris Drummond

As an addendum to my post above - I purchased your DHC-2 Beaver recently and the autopilot fitted to that is the KAP140 as advertised by you. I have no additional avionics fitted. Why in the Beaver & not the Turbo Otter? Regards.

Chris, if you are selecting the "FreeRadio" option that is using strictly FSX/P3D default 2d gauges.

All other avionics options use the 3d KAP140. It is included with your purchase.

If you do not own either F1 or RXP gauges, then choose between the first two options: "default" or "default_WX"

Hi again I do owe you a small apology! When I selected radios on the AMVAMS the top item was GNS430(x2), & at the bottom of the list were the free items - which I selected. I couldn't see any defaults. After I read your answer I scrolled up to the top & there they were! Selected one & all is well.
I'll try it out later. Thanks again. Regards, Chris
PS The control column now moves with the joystick!

Cool beans! 8-) The reason the control column doesn't work when the "Free Radio" options are chosen is because the essential logic is contained in the KAP140 gauges in order for the control columns/yokes to be animated:

The last two entries (gauge09 and gauge10 need to be added to the two "Freeradio" panel.cfg files stored in the ..\panel\PanelConfigs folder:

Code: Select all

//--------------------------------------------------------
[Vcockpit01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=256,256
visible=0
pixel_size=1024,1024

gauge00=..\panel\DH3!Controllers,1,1,1,1
gauge01=..\panel\DH3!DHC3Turbo_SysEvents,1,1,1,1
gauge02=..\panel\TurboOtterSystems!TurboOtterSystems,  0,0,1,1
gauge04=..\panel\amsinterop!amsinterop,1,1,1,1
gauge05=..\panel\MV3DSound!MV3DS,  0,0,1,1,SimObjects\\Airplanes\\DHC-3 Turbine Otter Milviz\\DHC-3_XML_Sounds#63
gauge06=TrueGlass!Core,0,0,1,1

Hi all at Milviz. Just so we can close this post, I took the Otter for a flight last night - everything works as advertised. Yes , you do have to hold the autopilot button down for quite a time - seems longer than 0.25 secs. but it worked perfectly. I am looking forward to exploring this aircraft, & maybe, with my birthday coming up, I might get the piston Otter. Thanks again for your help.
