FSX Flight Plan on the HSI

Post by Firecapt32 » Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:28 pm

Can someone tell me the proper procedure for getting an FSX fight plan to display on the HSI? I know how to do it with the E models but am having a tough time getting it to work on the J/S.

In the F-4S/J nav computer, TGT1 is TARGET and TGT2 is BASE. Same procedures as the E apply.

Ok, but when using an FSX flight plan do I need to enter any of the LAT/LONG's like in the F-4E or do I just leave those set to the default 0's?

? The F-4E doesn't need to either. You can set it to TGT 2 and control the active waypoint from a menu in the sim.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. In the E you need to put in the current position to align the INS. I've been entering my current position in the "BASE" setting thinking the J/S's NAV COMP needed the current location for reference. So if I just leave the "BASE" entry blank and use the FSX flight plan as I do in the E it will work.

Actually, the current position mode is entered in the Standby mode and is necessary for initializing the navigation computer (it derives position from true airspeed and wind data). The BASE position is indicating BASE as a destination, not the aircraft position, and is exactly the same as TGT 2 in the F-4E. You can change it just like the F-4E by putting in lat/lon on the TGT counters, and then moving the knob to Reset and back.

Ok, that's what I've been doing wrong.
