I seem only to be able to regain power in cold icy weather with pressing the H key. Should the fuel heater not do the same? Any advice, much appreciated.

The Janitrol heater is only for cabin heat. If you are losing engine power, then it's because you're encountering carburetor icing which means you need to put the carb heat on.

The "H" key is the keyboard shortcut for carb heat.

The real Twin-Co is fuel injected (IO-320) and doesn't have a carburetor or carb heat. They aren't prone to icing but do have (IIRC) a spring-loaded alternate air intake that pulls from inside the cowling. There should be no engine anti-ice to manage.

Unfortunately the sim does not support emulation of a fuel injected engine, hence the need to use carb heat... :(
