Questions about Magnetos and Parking Brake
Hi,
in the C310R Redux, the magneto bug (check left engine left magneto during run-up, check right magneto, engine dies) seems to have returned? Is this a regression or was it never gone? I have to admit, I'm not a stickler for checklists, but I started making run-up checks when I noticed unexpected performance differences between engines.
Also, is it intentional how the aircraft behaves when engaging the parking brake while airborne (with gear up)?
Thanks for your time,
Marc
PS: I'm using 3.180412

How does the aircraft behave when you've engaged the parking brake? Does it STOP?
If so, (or something like that), then DON'T engage the parking brake...
Mags, I'll leave to Chuck.

(can a moderator move this thread to the Redux forum?)
Regarding the magneto problem: Some others (including me) have this issue, too. See viewtopic.php?f=142&t=9302#p80101 in the C310R Redux support forum. (If you don't have access yet, please contact doodlebug via email)

Re: Questions about Magnetos and Parking Brake
Indeed, I have no access to the Redux forum. I did not request it, because I had no way of knowing it existed — from my perspective, the Redux version is an updated version of the 310, so I had to assume the 310 forum was still the right place.
Thanks for pointing this out. I'll mail Oisin.
Actually, any potential bug can be avoided by not flying the 310R.
Sorry if this sounds a bit bitter, but I'm under the impression that each one of my support requests so far has been answered with a variation of "go away".
Cheers,
Marc

In this spirit, the magneto issue is resolved by not doing run-up checks.

Re: Questions about Magnetos and Parking Brake
The reason you don’t turn on the parking brake whilst in the air is that we use special coding so that the plane doesn’t move when the parking brakes are on.
For the mags, we’re looking into this.
If you read the manual on page one, it’s pretty clearly stated on how to get on the support forums.
Just for clarification, each product has its own support forum.

Since I'm able to post in the "310R classic" support forum, it seems I went through the procedure at some point (multiple times, actually, because I own several MilViz products).Krazycolin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:50 amIf you read the manual on page one, it’s pretty clearly stated on how to get on the support forums.
I fully understand that you consider the 310R Redux its own product, just like a car manufacturer considers the "2018 Model-XYZ" its own product. Since I am blissfully unaware of the intricacies of aircraft model (or car) development, it's "just" an updated 310R (or "Model-XYZ") to me. So, no, for me it wasn't obvious that there is a separate forum. Remember: I cannot even see the names of support forums I don't have access to.Just for clarification, each product has its own support forum.

Re: Questions about Magnetos and Parking Brake
Adding a check for "aircraft is in the air" should be easy though to avoid any side effects.Krazycolin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:50 amThe reason you don’t turn on the parking brake whilst in the air is that we use special coding so that the plane doesn’t move when the parking brakes are on.
On the other hand you usually do not want to engage the parking brake while in the air, because this will lead to disaster when you forget to release it (this isn't on checklists) and try to land. Only a short tap on the brakes might be useful to stop rotating wheels before retracting the gear.
And this is the difference to the mags problem: Don't do this because you shouldn't do it anyway, unlike mag checks which should be done (and flying the aircraft should be done, too).
The "310R / 310R Redux General Forum" is a combined forum for both, too, so I'm not surprised if someone assumes that it is same same for the support forum. Maybe you can rename this forum to "310 Support Forum (non-Redux)" or something like "Classic 310 Support Forum"?Krazycolin wrote: ↑Tue Apr 17, 2018 10:50 amIf you read the manual on page one, it’s pretty clearly stated on how to get on the support forums.

Re: Questions about Magnetos and Parking Brake
According to that other thread, the Magnetos issue is supposed to be resolved in the latest iteration?
I will re-download, re-install and refrain from using a saved flight to be 100% sure I'm running the latest version.

Oh, cars are a very good example of product confusion. We have an "Hyundai i30cw", which is the hatchback version of the i30. While some things are identical, enough are not, so even our official Hyundai garage mixed up a spare part they had to order for it. Not yet solved. There has been a change in the 20180412 version, but it does not fully fix the problem.
