Re: Rain effects in FSX
Well I just opened a saved flight at the same airport, where IRL it is raining again right now (KBMG), and today the rain is animated. I switched to another aircraft and back, and the first time I did so the rain went static again. I did another switch, and then back to the Redux and the rain is once again animated. Go figure. Last night I could not get animated rain when the Redux was the loaded aircraft no matter what I tried. And I loaded a dozen other aircraft models one-by-one, and went back to the Redux each time.
Colin, I could discern no influence by the WX radar. I have nice rain right now and the WX radar is on and working nicely.
BTW, I use FS Global Real Weather and I always does a great job of providing accurate live weather and winds.

Move the aircraft into a black zone on the radar and see what happens?

Just the Redux? Or any aircraft?JonathanBleeker wrote: ↑Wed May 30, 2018 10:48 pmMove the aircraft into a black zone on the radar and see what happens?

Obviously cannot move into the black zone an aircraft that does not have the radar. LOL! So based on your earlier question and his question: is what I witnessed a characteristic of the wx radar and black zone?

Yup. That said, I want to confirm that what you saw was the effect actually ceasing to exist, not freezing with drops in mid-air.

That begs one heck of a question! How does your radar interact with the weather injected by the weather engine a user has in use? And if there is a contradiction which prevails? My weather engine has been spot on! The latest metar was reporting rain at the airport I was at. I am not at all in favor of an aircraft radar overriding that.JonathanBleeker wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 9:13 amYup. Yes. I am aware that I can fly without the radar.

Quite simple. FS does precipitation based on zones, not clouds. We match those zones with a cloud map and control the precipitation so that you only get rain when within the cloud rain shaft.

Re: Rain effects in FSX
So if FS does precip based on zones and if you match those zones then why was FS giving me precip but you were not. What caused the mis-match?JonathanBleeker wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 2:52 pmQuite simple. FS does precipitation based on zones, not clouds. Because we don't let it rain without clouds.

????????
Who said there were no clouds? Please read my question about zones. You match the FS zones for precip. That is what you stated. So if you have matched the FS zone and in that FS zone I am getting rain, then something is array with your match....

If I may suggest something... why not look at the wxd, find a spot where it’s raining and slew on over there.

I didn’t say there were no clouds. I was saying that the clouds don’t necessarily fill the entire precipitation zone, that there are gaps and holes, and you were likely in one of those gaps/holes.
