C310R redux external lights issue P3D V4.2

Post by robains » Sun Mar 18, 2018 1:12 am

Great aircraft Milviz, RealLight and TrueGlass have added a much improved visuals and immersion.

I noticed what looks like an external lights issue (nav, stobe, landing) with DL enabled ... looks like the lights are angled incorrectly or something, here is an unlisted video of the issue:

Regarding the ground splashes of the nav and white tail lights, those are being generated by P3Dv4.2, so I have no real control over them. What is odd is that here on my v4.2 they are absolutely flat on to the ground...

As for the landing lights, did you have them extended when shooting this video? If you used the keyboard to turn them on, they will of course be pointing straight down instead of forward like the taxi light. Use the switch from the pilot's lighting panel to extend them so they will point forward.

I see the incorrect angle in my 4.2 install with or without DL enabled.

Please temporarily move these five "GS" files from your ..\Effects folder to the ..\Effects\texture folder and see if this issue goes away:

MilVizC310_navgreenGS.fx
MilVizC310_navredGS.fx
MilVizC310_strobe_smGS.fx
MilVizC310_strobeGS.fx
MilVizC310_navwhi_smGS.fx

Note that will also remove the nav and white strobe lights while on the ground, but if the problem goes away it will at least tell me how I can fix this issue.

Hi Bill,

Will try that out ... don't know what to say about why your 4.2 is working differently than my 4.2? Have you tried on a "clean" P3D V4.2 install? (i.e. no SDK or any other dev tools installed). My other "test PC" is currently down and out and going thru an upgrade, but should be back online later this week where I can do a clean V4.2 install and test again. So far, this is the only aircraft that seems to be having this issue.

I'll double check the landing lights, I'm pretty sure they were extended but I'm getting old and crusty so could be my issue, will report back tonight, in the office today.

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, I am running a relatively 'virgin' P3Dv4.2 myself. In fact, I only have the MV C310R Redux installed at the moment. The rest are all the default aircraft.

Removing those FX files fixed a few things, but now there is no strobe and the landing light down position doesn't light up the ground ... assume that was expected result. In fully extracted position they seem very low intensity.

Quick unedited video, unlisted:

Rob, that is not the least bit surprising to me. You see, those files with the xxxGS.fx are only visible when on the ground. When airborne the same named files without the GS are used. So what my "final solution" will be to simply copy/paste/rename the non-GS .fx files so they will be used while on ground. This is much more desirable than me having to create two new models for use only in P3Dv3 and v4!!! 8-)

BTW, the landing light switch is three position:
  1. OFF
  2. EXTEND
  3. ON

Not for me it isn't ... you know I'm not a fan of the compromise for the weaker platforms ... just do a V4 native model, please, pretty please ... if I beg to Colin will that help?! It's a shame, you ladies/gents have put so much work into getting a very nice experience with RealLight and TrueGlass but leave us with less than desirable external lighting.

UPDATE: When I installed the latest updates for 530 and/or 407 and/or B55 the following FX files I had moved elsewhere came back to life?

MilVizC310_strobeGS.fx
MilVizC310_strobe_smGS.fx
MilVizC310_navwhi_smGS.fx
MilVizC310_navredGS.fx
MilVizC310_navgreenGS.fx

these were added to my Effects folder again. So I'm somewhat confused how/why these same files were in the 530, 407, B55 installers unless the same files are shared with the 310 but named as the 310?

Anyway, still would rather see these files follow the P3D V4 way of lighting. I can keep removing these files on any Milviz install, but I would prefer to not have to remember to do that, already have a small encyclopedia for the 1001 other things I need to remember to fix/adjust from all the various other vendors.

Cheers, Rob.

Argh! Yes, those are indeed shared among many products. I'll have to rename them then to avoid this issue. I'm not sure what you mean the "P3D v4 way of lighting" since P3Dv4 uses the same type of .fx files... :|

Hi Bill,

The two new DL specific light types per SDK. Don't recall the values off the top of my head ... not near the P3D V4 SDK right now.

Cheers, Rob.
