MV_WX.dll incompatible message

Post by billhuntsman » Mon Mar 12, 2018 9:58 pm

It has been several months since I last flew the Beaver, hence I needed to update it today before flying. I downloaded the latest version and uninstalled old/reinstalled new version. I only have FSX, so that was the only simulator choice during installation. When I tried to run FSX I got a message that the MV_WX.dll is incompatible with my simulator. I clicked on OK in the incompatibility message, but then FSX hangs up at the progress bar screen. The progress bar does not even appear. It is also difficult to close and Task Manager shows that there is an Error process running.

Before posting I did a forum search for this problem, but my situation seems different from the posts that I saw. Unlike one of the posters, I do not have a MV_WX.dll in both the gauges folder and the panel folder. I have that dll only in the panel folder for the DH-2 Beaver Milviz base model. It is version 1.25.38. In another post the advice was to click OK because the dll works, but obviously it does not work for me.

How can I get the correct MV_WX.dll installed into FSX?

I see you have FSX Acceleration in your signature. But to be double sure, please post the version number of the sim1.dll found in your FSX directory. That way I can confirm which dll to send you.

Go through your beaver panel folders and wherever you find a MV_WX.dll, delete and then unzip this into that folder: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ho9c3alyapcwm ... A.zip?dl=0

Thanks, Jonathan. The only MV_WX.dll was in the basic Beaver panel folder. After replacing it, I no longer got the error message and the sim loads OK. However, the weather radar is still only partially functional. The knobs turn and the unit will turn on and go through the test, showing the test pattern. However, even though I have tried several times in locations with active rain and thunderstorms, the weather radar shows only the gridlines and no precipitation or turbulence echoes. I followed the procedure described in the REX directions for this radar, including adjusting the tilt, but I never get any radar echoes. I have also tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Beaver package (with AV disabled) and replacing the 1.11.38 version of the MV_WX.dll with the 1.11.40 version you sent. Still no radar echoes.

Is there a MV_WX.dll in your gauges folder?

No, only in the panel folder.

FWIW while I was waiting for your response, I tried putting a copy of the MV_WX.dll you sent in the gauges folder as well to see if this made the weather radar work. Unfortunately, I still get no radar images.

Any ideas about how I can get my weather radar to function? Thanks.

Sorry about the delay. Can you show me the Beaver aircraft folders in your SimObjects\Airplanes folder please?

Which particular variant are you trying to fly?

Also, does your sim load up with the rainy weather from the get go or do you set the weather after you have loaded the flight?

I have tried it mostly by using Active Sky and a location where the METAR shows thunderstorms, but I have also tried no add-on weather and setting a rainy scenario from the FS weather menu. Neither one produces echoes. Also, in both cases I have tried the drop down "Rescan weather" choice after the echoes did not show and it made no difference. The test pattern shows up and when I turn to one of the radar weather settings, a very narrow red wedge shows up pointing straight up shows briefly. Then the display goes black except for the gridlines in the display, which do show. No range, gain or brightness settings change the lack of rain echoes.

Cycling the power makes no difference? Is this happening on the ground or in the air as well?

Also, if you are off the ground and you rotate the tilt downwards, do you see ground clutter echoes?

Although I have not tried turning the power to the unit off and on during flight, I have tried the other things. No echoes on the ground or flying, even into rain clouds and the tilt does nothing. I see no ground clutter and I see no rain echoes. I did go through the suggested routines during warm up and climb out as in the instructions that go with the manual. That is how I know that the tilt control does not change the black screen.
