MVAMS Product Updating
I have the DHC2 Beaver with Expansion pack for FSX. When the expansion pack was released, I downloaded update 170803 via the update e-mail as well as purchasing the Expansion pack.
I reading some posts in the forum today, I noted another update was available so I opened the MVAMS and sure enough there was a notice. At first I wasn't sure what the process was, so I accepted the updated and performed a download and install. I was not too comfortable with this as I normally do a complete uninstall before installing the latest update. The installer was for version 170808. There was no indication as to where the downloaded update was located on my computer, but I found the path and the shortcut on my desktop. The downloaded file was named DHC2 and not the usual file name containing the version number. Anyways, I decided to rerun the installer, perform a full uninstall and then reinstall the product. I am assuming there is no impact on the expansion pack, but I'll find out in a few minutes as I take a few flights.
I'm not sure I really like this way to update the product. I save all my product updates to a CD in case I need to reinstall something, so tracking down the file through the MVAMS setup was a little cumbersome. Also, a little more information on what to expect would have been helpful.
Just my two cents worth.
Thanks

i cant find the installer.
It just ran after MVAMS told me the update was available. After it opened, I did the uninstall option first but now there is no installer to run!

Exactly my point (or at least one of them).
On my machine the folder Chris identified is hidden, so I have to "unhide" the app directory to find the mvams directory.
Only after you do an install is there a shortcut to the installer on the desktop.

Re: MVAMS Product Updating
Thanks all. I got it working.
But as mentioned, it took some digging because the shortcuts dont appear until after the install routine has installed. As I wanted to remove the Beaver first before reinstalling I guess it messes the system up. Anyway, room for improvement there I think.

Thanks for the replyKrazycolin wrote:Second.
So as I understand it:
1/ if I accept the message when asked to update, both the beaver and the spray and play installers will be downloaded?
2/ Then when running the installer both will be uninstalled?
3/ Then I reinstall the Beaver
4/ Then I reinstall spray and play
5/ Or is there a second support forum I should be subscribing to to receive information for the spray and spray?
Best wishes
Bob

Re: MVAMS Product Updating
Had no idea there was a separate support forum for the Spray n' Play.
E-mail request just sent.
