Landing & Taxiing On Rough Bush Strips
I am enjoying this aircraft very much, especially the amphib which I fly extensively in the Orbx territories. I also enjoy taking my beaver to a number of remote bush strips in the Idaho area. I typically equip it with tundra tires for these trips. I have noticed the aircraft has significant difficulty landing on a number of these strips and even taxiing at very low speeds generates a significant "bounce" effect almost to the point of losing control of the aircraft.
Is there a tweak that someone could recommend that would "calm" this effect? I certainly understand that these strips are rough and will cause any aircraft to rock and bounce during maneuvers and landing but I believe the beaver, as configured at the moment, is overly sensitive. I would really appreciate being able to use the tundra tire equipped beaver in these areas
I am careful to configure the beaver as close as I can to the numbers required to make a successful landing at this type of strip and so it is not a case of coming in excessively "hot". I also am sensitive to the rough terrain present and take my time taxiing.
I am using P3d v4.
Any thoughts and/or suggestions?
John

Re: Landing & Taxiing On Rough Bush Strips
This is dead on.
It seems that the Tundra Beaver or any other type, cannot land off of a manicured grass, flattened runway. An ORBX natural dirt or grass runway will cause the Beaver to twitch, shake, bounce and crash.
If you are going slow you can cut the power, let the Beaver quit twitching and then slowly apply some power, but if going up hill just forget it.

Hello John , contact points can be used to let some air out of those oversized tires , if you replace the [contact_points] in the tundra version with the one provided below you will find the ride smoother.

Noticed this as well. Thanks for the tweak, Chuck.
Will this fix be included in the upcoming update, or something that will need to be reapplied?

Hi Chuck,
Thank you so very much! Believe me, your design efforts and this beaver are wonderful and very much appreciated. I could not be happier with this aircraft. I have used a DHC-2 for years in the Vancouver, BC area. It is my "pick-up truck" so to speak. This aircraft is honest, true to its heritage and an integral part of the development of the BC area.
Your efforts have produced a quality work product. I know I speak for many when I say that I very much enjoy flying it. One other thing, I very much appreciate your willingness to listen with an open mind and offer constructive assistance and suggestions when appropriate. You are an asset to the Milviz team and I am grateful you are here to help.

Re: Landing & Taxiing On Rough Bush Strips
Likely it will not as we can't make it a "soft touch" for all landing surfaces.

" A Specific Adaptation " is what I would define that change as . There isn't any suspension on one of these and that makes for a rough ride on rough terrain , I had looked into adding the water buffet effect to rough terrain transit with a rattle and shake sound, I could detect that ground type but decided not to drive people nuts with the added ruckus, seems to have been the right call after all.

Please note that we can't and won't make new fd's for 3rd party scenery. This is the last (and only) time.
Sorry but we. Ant be doing this for all products...

Those of us who appreciate the Beaver's capabilities in the bush and enjoy taking her to some of the most remote and difficult strips in the Northwest Territories and Alaska thank you all for this one-time alteration. I'm sure we understand your position regarding being asked to make numerous changes to your aircraft and so we are thankful for your response this one time.

Agreed, I thank you folks for the tweak as well. Running it on just the tundra version sounds like a perfect compromise to me, and so that's what I'll do. I look forward to trying it out! Really appreciate your help.

Re: Landing & Taxiing On Rough Bush Strips
I had just put the Tundra version on my "DO NOT FLY LIST". I found the smaller wheels better in the bush in rough terrain. A pity for sure!
Then, this thread! Thank you and I will give this bird another try at flying in the wilderness.

Re: Landing & Taxiing On Rough Bush Strips
Just tried these contact points out at Dog Fish Head in ORBX SAK. I like them! I was expecting them to be too soft, but they strike a nice balance between being comfortable / controllable, and still giving a great feeling for how rugged the terrain is. They'll be a permanent mod on my tundra Beaver. Think they require an STC?
