Straight floats

just saw some shots of supposedly the DHC2 on straight floats that is coming out ----I hope those shots are wrong.
It looks like those floats are just AMPHIBs with the wheels removed. For example, in RL there is no 'step' on the outside of the floats as it would likely be submerged. Also the nose bumpers are away too long and enlarged.
I sure hope Colin, that those shots are wrong. So far the A/C is okay, now don't screw it up please. :)

Yep, never saw a step on a straight or pure float before.

Perhaps one of you would like to post some pictures.
Is this peculiar to Australia?
I have never seen a float without a step.
The reason for the step is that when sufficient speed is reached the float starts planing allowing the aircraft to come up on the front step of the float which in turn allows less drag and hence take off.

Cheers Chris

I think they're talking about the step = foothold on the side of the float that allows you to climb into the plane - not the shape of the underside of the floats
