sticky switches

Post by spesimen » Sun Jun 18, 2017 4:57 am

since updating to the newest version ( downloaded today about 2 hours ago) i notice that a lot of my switches don't change state when i click them but rather toggle on/off instantly. first happened with the alternator but also with the light switches. i found that if i kind of click and hold them eventually i will get it to toggle, and it doesn't always happen it seems kind of random. but it happens often enough to be noticeable.

anyone else seen this or is it something odd on my system? i'm using fsx-steam. i didn't have any troubles like this with the previous beaver version i was using which i think was the one from maybe 3-4 weeks ago.

cheers!

I've noticed this as well. Mine is the boxed version of fsx. As you said it doesn't happen all the time but enough to be annoying.

In P3Dv3, my starter switch toggles on/off so fast that the prop never moves.

Agreed, it is annoying. Sometimes it takes me five tries to get a switch to stay flipped. Really takes you out of your "bush pilot flew" of "let's hurry up and get going". ;-). FSXA here.

Hi,

Sounds like an animation issue. I could not reproduce it in FSX/P3D v4.
The more info you can bring would help to figure out a solution.

-Are you all using Beaver's latest version?
-Loading Beaver from Free Flight section or a custom default aircraft (C172, etc)?
-Loading from a previous saved flight?
-Loading Cold&Dark or which state?
-Using a complex scenery (Orbx, etc) ? (If so, try starting from a basic airport)
-Using Accu-Sim or related addon that affects aircraft environment?
-Using FSUIP special configuration?
-Frame rates at that moment?
-Any other pertinent info?

Thank you.

Yes to the latest version. Happens at different sceneries default and add on. Framerates are usually around 30 or 40. Mine's locked at 40 by the way. Free flight, cold and dark. I have a default flight set up with the 172. No accu-sim because I don't own it. I only have FSUIPC freeware not paid so no special set up there. Hope that helps answer your questions. It happens to mine so infrequently its hard to reproduce. Let me know if more is needed. Always happy to help out. :)

Thanks.

You could try by saving a flight with the Beaver and then choosing that one from Free Flight menu.

Being not permanent and random means it isn't a code issue but most probably an animation behavior depending on other FS factors.

hi.
1. using latest version. in fact it only started happening after i updated to this version.
2. free flight
3. nope, starting fresh
4. cold & dark
5. i first noticed it at Orbx PAJN. it happened a few times at default airports but not as often. which was a clue! see below.
6. i do have accusim installed but it is currently disabled
7. i do have fsuipc installed but the only thing it is doing is showing VAS on my window bar
8. 15-20ish fps. after some investigation i am almost certain it is fps related. if i set my fps limiter to 10fps the problem happens VERY frequently. i couldn't find the exact threshold but i think it is around 15fps or below where it really starts to happen. this low doesn't happen too much on my system but it can easily happen at an addon airport like PAJN if the weather is also bad (overcast and rain for example). if i am flying in just pleasant skies and area with no complex scenery, and GPS turned off i get around 30+ fps and i do not see the switch problem.

edit: here is a short video demonstrating the issue https://youtu.be/JUwSV-PU0qg

cheers!

I concur with the above; it definitely seems fps related, and on my medium - end system I see it often in complex scenery locations when I can easily be down to 10-15 fps.

An interesting note: this same issue affected the starter, and therefore starting, for me in the early Beaver versions. Somewhere along the way in an update, starter behavior was updated, and since then I literally have not had the starter switch exhibit the "sticky" behavior once, even in situations where all other switches do. No idea if that's relevant, I mention it just in case there's a clue there.

Thanks guys,

Indeed seems to be a fps issue. Would help that you try not to move the mouse when clicking until the switch is stable.
Anyway I will see if it is possible to improve switch operations using custom code.
