Takeoff performance on floats
Hi guys,
In contrast to the data in the POM, I observe a poor takeoff performance, as a first rough info about twice the takeoff run on water like with a Cessna C185F, 2000 ft the Beaver, 1000 ft the Cessna. Exact values depend on many facts, of course.
Did not read anything about that, if this is not an already known issue, I might make a video to show the problem.
Cheers
Rudi

Check weight for your Beaver. It may be overloaded

I'm working on a fix. More work to do, but I am now able to lift off at 62 mph. That shortens the takeoff run significantly.

Hello,
As rudi0310, I find it very hard to take off with the Beaver float, either on the water or on the runway.
Thanks to working on this

Kdub,
thanks for the info. Let me know when I can help. Made more tests this morning. On water it seems more a matter of takeoff speed, on land adds high roll resistance.
To have an amphibian which performs well on water and on land would be a huge advantage. Many competitors fail here, the best I know seems the Carenado C185F Bush for FSX. Take the time you need.
Cheers

Rudi:
Just to let you know that I have made some progress, although I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get my prop pitch mapped to the PROP axis and not the PROP1 axis so I could use my ELITE throttle quadrant. However, I digress! I have gotten to the point where I can lift off the water in a more realistic manner, as in with virtually no back pressure on the yoke. Beavers do not leap off of the water, they rise off and most pilots immediately reduce MP and prop speed to take it easy on the R-985. I'll do more work and keep you apprised of any progress that I make.

Kdub,
I did not get a notification from your last post, I might have the approbiate checkbox not ticked, sorry. Thanks for your info from June!
I tested the update immediately. Excellent work! Thanks a lot!
I produced a video today, with some harsh pulling up to get the shortest takeoff runs possible:
https://youtu.be/yQ5erD9zB_c
BTW, the animation of the elevation trim needle in the 3D cockpit is reversed here for me now? (The trimming itself is OK).
Cheers

Again I got no notification about this last posting, although I'm sure the checkbox was ticked and all settings seem to be ok, also checked the spam folder.

Re: Takeoff performance on floats
Well, my mods don't work well with the addon and they work best with version 16. I will wait a while and see whether the sound issue is rectified before I go back to version 16. I like the pointy spinner and I like the idea that landing with the gear down in water creates a crash. I wish those were the only changes made because now I am uncertain as to what to do.

Update to the latest version , you will note that drag values affect takeoff runs , the trick is setting up on one pontoon during the latter stage.

Re: Takeoff performance on floats
Chuck,
Now that the splashdown rumble sound that was driving my subwoofer crazy has been eliminated, I can test out my mods to the airfile. It is working well so far. I am able to liftoff at 58 miles an hour with no pitch oversensitivity. I get about 550 fpm at 80 mph using 29 inches and 2000 rpm. 20 inches gives me a descent rate of 550 fpm at 70 mph. I thought that my mods were useless in the latest update but I think the weight and balance changes may have restored the usability. More testing to do.
Thanks for your help.
