Refund please [McAffee woes]

Hi, your software has caused me nothing but trouble and I've had enough. I would like a refund, please. I followed your instructions to a tee except for the AV not scan FSX. I use Mcafee and it doesn't allow me to do that. I installed the latest version from your forum as per your instructions. I installed the update from MVAMS and am still getting a quarantine file PWS-FCEQ!XXXXX, DLL.XML not found and installer integrity check failed. Common causes include incomplete download.

In the past, I have purchased, downloaded and installed several airplanes and Orbx scenery from several different companies and have never had this problem. This is not fun anymore and I would like my money back.

Thank you.

Don

It is clearly stated on our website that our products will not function unless anti-virus software is disabled during download and installation.

Hi Mcafee wont let let me stop it from scanning my fsx file.I can shut off the firewall and real time scanning which I have tried five different times but that's it. I can restore the file In Quarantine but as soon as I start FSX it Quarantines it again

Honestly, I had McAfee once and it was a pernicious blight on my computer, but it's your choice. There must be some way to temporarily disable it!
If any McAfee power-users can help we would appreciate it!

This will not work on my PC short of changing antivirus providers which I don't want to do.I have been on MacAfee's website and the only option is to restore the Quarantined file

FOR McAfee ANTIVIRUS

Double-click the McAfee icon in the System Tray. This is located in the lower-right corner of the desktop. The icon looks like an "M" in a red shield.
Click "Real-Time Scanning". This button is located at the top of the window, underneath the green banner. By default,it will say "On".
Disable Real-Time Scanning. When you click the button, you will be given the option to disable the real-time scanning,
and allow you to set how long you want it disabled.

I guess you tried the above?

I'm running McAfee and its a real pain with Milviz products because of the false positives. I've complained to them, but all they did was send me a new *.dat file but no instructions on how to install it.

Under Real Time Scanning options I ended up unchecking the option to "Use active protection for live defense against threats." This option seemed redundant since the system gets scanned per your schedule, and any downloads get automatically scanned.

There are two places within McAfee where you can exclude files and folders. I've excluded my primary flight directories for FSX in both.

McAfee doesn't seem to like the MILVIZ_lighting_services.exe file found in the nightlighting directory. So I take the extra step to insure these are excluded as well, otherwise they may show up as quarantined. With the Beaver it's a little more challenging since there are four aircraft folders containing four of these files.

Hope this helps.

we have also been in touch with Norton, Kapersky and Mcafee... to no avail. They just don't seem to care.

I use ESET and have never had a problem... not ever.

I'll try.

I'm running McAfee Security Center. Under 'Virus and Spyware Protection' open up the Realtime Scanning. You may have to close the 'Settings' section to see the "Excluded files" section. For the second exclusion you will have to use the Navigator to open up the section on Scheduled Scans. There you will find the 'Excluded files and folders.'

Not sure I can help you with the DLL.XML. I know its found under your %username%/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX folder. It's hidden so you will need to turn that feature off to find it.

BTW - did you run the install program "as administrator?" I always right click the installer to "run as administrator" to insure that the installer has permissions such as making entries to the dll.xml.

Hi Warhorse I am running McAfee Security Center too. That is where I was trying before but for some reason it wont let me move the fsx file over. Is there some trick to this I don't know about? What do I do with the DLL.Xml file when I find it. And yes I always run "as administrator". This is beyond my computer skills and very hard to explain in a forum. Thank you for trying to help

Within the McAfee Security Center where I indicated, you don't "move" the file over. You have to click on the button to "Add Files", then navigate to the file or directory you want to exclude. Once you select that, McAfee records it for future scans.

As I said earlier, there's not much I can advise you on the dll.xml file. If you don't know what you're looking for or how to even examine it, then don't spend your time trying to find it.

My computer skills are from many years of trial and error with FS9 and FSX and learning from others on forums. There's lots of good dedicated forums out there that you can search for answers. Just keep in mind that this forum is for support of Milviz products and not what we're discussing.
