Fuel primer

Post by rgerdes » Sun May 28, 2017 3:46 am

Got the Beaver working - except for the fuel primer; I can't see it as it's hidden along side the pilots seat. Is the a key or key combination I can assign to actuate it?
Thanks, Bob

Just move your view point to the left and you'll see the lever on the floor.
I use default Ctrl-Shift-(Enter/Backspace) to move right-left, and then Ctrl-Space to return to front view.

Thanks Taguilo - that's all I needed!
I've got one of those hat things gathering dust in a closet somewhere, but gave up on it long ago.
I'm not even sure if you really need to do the primer other than for drill - the engine started fine without that step,,,
Anyway, thanks again

Well, it may start, sometimes it may not. It's aleatory, but when you prime correctly you obviouly increase the chances for a fast light up.

well I had to look that one up 8-)

Definition of aleatory:

1
: depending on an uncertain event or contingency as to both profit and loss an aleatory contract

2
: relating to luck and especially to bad luck

So, guess I'll keep on priming.....

Thank you. You've saved me from having to look it up!
It says something about the state of U.S. education when even folks with graduate degrees have a lesser command of the English language than someone who's native language is not English...

I've managed to start the engine every time without using the Fuel Primer Pump.
Tom says "... when you prime correctly you obviously increase the chances for a fast light up."
To me that infers that it does actually prime the engine in the sim and too many pumps would flood the engine preventing it starting.

Does the Fuel Primer Pump actually prime the engine in the sim?
Can too many pumps flood the engine preventing it starting?

If your engine is hot (CHT above 25-30 C) it will practically start at once, no need to prime; you can prime one or two strokes to ensure the start, but not much or you risk to flood the engine.
As long as you start in C&D with low temps (and Beavers know about low temps!) priming becomes a must do (but caution, if you overprime flooding will be worst).
