Question about REX Weather radar installation
I just purchased the Beaver last night and I am very impressed, but I am confused about the Weather Radar. The manual states that the Beaver comes with a working REX weather radio, but it doesn't seem to work in mine. There is a gauge and when I hover the cursor over the buttons, it changes to indicate that they are clickable. However nothing happens when I click on them (other radios are on) and the weather radar screen remains dark.
During installation I followed the instructions regarding disabling antivirus. When I got to the option installation screen I clicked on "Weather Radar" and "FSX-A" because I have FSX acceleration and the rest of the installation seemed to go OK.
This is my first Milviz product and I have not previously purchased REX Weather Radar. Do I need to purchase the radar from REX or is something else wrong?
Thanks.
Bill

I haven't worked much with the beaver so will have to figure out myself first. Will need to know the particular model/livery you are testing in.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
I have mostly been using the 8th repaint (Yellow floats version N904AK) but the problem also happens with the first repaint (CUXPA). After my post I tried an uninstall/reinstall (with antivirus disabled), but the problem remains. When the radio switch is on all the other radios are lit, but the weather radio remains dark and none of the knobs on it seem to turn it on.
I just saw your reply. I do not have that MV_WX.dll gauge in my FS gauges folder. The reinstall did not place it there.

Redo your download with your av disabled. Make sure your av is not accessing the sim directory. Run the sim as an administrator.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
I have done all of those things before my last post. I uninstalled/reinstalled with AV protection paused. I always run all applications as administrator. Do you have any other suggestions? I also pause AV while running FSX.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
It's likely that your av scanned the directory and removed the files. It matters not if it's running. Some av are VERY critical.

OK, I will close the AV program and try another uninstall/reinstall.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
I am not surprised you hare having problems....the panel configs are an appaling mess...some work, some do not.
I had a similar problem and have been wading through the settings... seem my post re GTN750
The required gague MV_WX.dll is actually in the "Prepar3D\SimObjects\Airplanes\DHC-2 Beaver Milviz\panel" folder
This is where it is meant to be, as it is called from the panel configs in the various configurations.
Some configurations have pop up windows, others that should don't ... there are definitely some bugs to iron out.
I suggest you try the MAVS GPS "None" option with Weather Radar Selected. If that works try some other configurations.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
No luck, I'm afraid. My AV program (eset) cannot be closed/turned off as a whole without uninstalling it, something I am not willing to do. What I did do was go into eset controls and disable all protections that could be disabled and paused the rest of the protections for 4 hours. As I understand it, there is nothing else that can be turned off. I have no other AV programs active (Windows Defender is permanently turned off). Also eset is permanently set to exclude the FSX drive from scanning during normal operations. During the 4 hour pause of all protections I uninstalled the Beaver and downloaded/extracted the installer again. I ran it, again checking the Weather Radar option. However, the Milviz Weather Radar gauge is still not in the gauges folder. As far as I can tell, there is nothing more I can do on the antivirus end other than an uninstall of the eset program (not an option). By the way, I did check the eset log for the past several days and it shows not cleaning or quarantine activity.
If necessary, I guess I will just fly the Beaver without the weather gauge.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
No, I am running FSX acceleration. However, I did find the gauge in the FSX simobjects/airplanes/Milviz Beaver/panel folder, so it was installed there, not in gauges. I will go try the sim and see if it is functional. I'll report back in a few minutes.

Re: Question about REX Weather radar installation
The weather radio gauge shows up, but does not turn on. I have clicked on all of the knobs, including the one you highlighted in your screenshot, but nothing happens.
I just realized that the weather gauge in the panel folder may just the be skin for the weather gauge. There is no actual weather gauge in the gauges folder.
