Autopilot ALT not working
Hi all,I have a problem with the Beaver in FSX:SE. The AP engages just fine, but instead of keeping the altitude or VS mode, the VS keeps increasing and increasing, no matter if ALT or VS, or ALT ARM, is selected, VS starts from 0, 100, 200, 300-...1500. No way to stop it. The AP is basically useless this way. Oh, by the way, standard things, no GTN or whatsoever. What can I do?
Thanks

Re: Autopilot ALT not working
Can you give more information? Which exact version of the Beaver are you flying and how do you have the payload arranged? I can not reproduce the problem.
Do you use this autopilot with other airplanes? Does it work with those airplanes? Can you describe the exact procedure you are using? For example,
1. trim at xxx IAS
2. Press and hold this button
3. Press this button, etc...

Re: Autopilot ALT not working
Hi there, I'll try to give you as many infos I can.
Version, I don't know. Where do I find it? The installer is 171229. I am using the tundra version, by the way. Payload is 170 lbs per station, excluding baggage, left at 0. Yes, all other airplanes are ok. So, what I do is what I usually do with all airplanes, real or not
When the airplane is trimmed, level flight or climbing, I engage the AP, which goes into ROL mode, and VS (usually). When VS appears, is at 100, say, then it starts increasing and increasing. If I try to trim it down manually, it just won't, even pushing the stick, doesn't work. If I click the + or - they work, but as soon as I stop clicking, the VS starts increasing. The AP calls for the altitude as well (the "beep"), but it just won't stop. When in ALT mode, well, it simply doesn't keep it. The rate is usually lower, but level flight isn't possible at all.
So, to summarize:
in VS, I see the rate increasing;
in ALT I don't see the rate, but I see it climbing and climbing;
In ALT ARM, it won't stop, but keeps climbing (the usual way it does with VS mode).
I even try to switch it off and on, but nothing changes.
Do I forget anything? If you want I could make a small video with my phone and upload it somewhere.
Thanks
Federico

Re: Autopilot ALT not working
I've tried in P3D and FSX:A ( I don't have FSX:SE ) with the Tundra model ( stock and ALT FDE ) and I can not reproduce the problem. It sounds to me like you have a conflict with elevator trim inputs ( joystick and/or keyboard? ), or maybe the elevator trim is at the limit. Have you adjusted anything in the Beaver's configuration file or AIR file? As a last resort, try un-installing it and re-installing it. If you'd like to upload a video, that's cool too.

Re: Autopilot ALT not working
I'll see what I can do for the video. I tried using the float (amphib) version tonight, and it worked perfectly. Don't know.... anyway, no, I didn't modify anything nor in the air file, or the config file. I have some programs that modify .cfg if they need, but it's usually small changes (like adding stations, changing views...that stuff). Strange thing...thanks a lot anyway

Re: Autopilot ALT not working
Some others have reported autopilot difficulties when used in conjunction with certain add-on nav aids. Are you using anything like that? Maybe try disabling all add-on radios and see if that clears it up. If it does, then figure out which one was causing the problem.
