DHC-2 Audio issues [resolved]

Post by sbc434 » Wed Feb 28, 2018 2:21 am

I am having some audio issues with the DHC-2. I have the following products install: MilViz_DHC-2_Beaver_17122 and MilViz_DHC-2_Beaver_Expansion_Pack_170829. I have not upgraded these products since purchasing them on 25Feb2018.

I am running P3D v4.1.7.22841 and it is very stable without a problem. Full Orbx, Chase Plane, and Active Sky P3Dv4. I fly primarily PMDG 7737NGX, 747QotSII and the default P3Dv4 planes. I have zero issues.

The DHC-2 files wonderfully. I've been fly it for a few days now and absolutely love the plane!

But ... When I move to an outside view/camera, the audio becomes crackly and intermittent with very low volume.

Tonight I began to fly the DHC-2 with 'Active Sky for Prepar3D v4' running and experienced some additional audio issues. When I am flying with in the normal rpm range in a cockpit view/camera, I hear a muffled rattling sound. It seems to diminish when on the water at idle. When the P3Dv4 window looses focus, the engine sound normal rattling stops. When the P3Dv4 window regains focus, the rattling returns. The outside view audio seems to get much worse as well.

I have a short video that demonstrates the problem exactly but I could not upload it since the mp4 format was not accepted. If send me an email I can reply with the video attached.

In the short term, I will continue flying without Active sky but needless to say, long term this is pretty much a show stopper.

Cheers, Scott

I read some other posts on this forum that talked about detonation/pinging that might be a source/cause for the 'audio problem'.

I will do some more digging tonight.

Question. Can I disable this detonation/pinging "feature" somehow, like in the aircraft config file or the like?

the detonation / pinging is a modelled behaviour and should only occur when the mixture settings are incorrect for the prevailing conditions.

I have found the root cause and I am very happy and relieved to report that it was "pilot error" with me not having Carb Heat set correctly. I was hearing detonation/pinging after all.

When you loose focus of the P3Dv4 window, the engine sounds remain heard but the detonation sounds stop. This was what confused the issue when I was switching back and forth between the Active Sky window and the P3dv4 window. The detonation would cut in and out. It seems like the sound channels might not be consistent in this regard.

Again, very nice work on this aircraft. It is very well done and I am enjoying it very much.

I looked back and screen captures I had saved with the Aerosoft version of the DHC-2. No contest, Milvis' is orders of magnitude better. (Not to bash Aerosoft, and to be fair, we are not comparing apples to apples since P3Dv4 is far better that FSX on many levels.)
