Decent Rate - Collective Down
The decent rate with the collective full down and attitude level is very slow. I get, at most, 1000 fpm. This is in the UH-1H version. This rate seems very low. I would expect the helo to decend very quickly in this configuration. This configuration is basically an auto-rotation.
Anyone seeing this?

Re: Decent Rate - Collective Down
I just tried this, in P3D v4, and I get 2000-2500 FPM at a forward speed of 80KT (which shouldn't matter much but it keeps me out of VRS!)
Is it possible that your settings aren't really getting you to max down collective?

Re: Decent Rate - Collective Down
I did check and the collective down is full down. Please try full collective down from about 200 ft with an airspeed of about 5 knots. I am not concerned with VRS at the point, just want to know if the decent rate is going to be realistic. With close to 0 airspeed and full collective down the heli should fall out of the sky.

Re: Decent Rate - Collective Down
Hi Danny,
I took the UH-1H up to 200 feet in a hover and dropped the collective all the way down.
In about 4 seconds I hit the ground at 3500 FPM and accelerating.
I'm not at all sure why you are seeing that floating behavior. Try an auto-rotation and see how that goes. If the Huey turns into a glider for you, it will give me a clue.
Editorially, I'll say that the FSX/P3D flight model for rotary wings throws down serious challenges for any designer trying to make it fairly realistic. Out of the box, it's more like a game and it's not possible to simply tweak the numbers to get it right. We came up with some creative cheats (like any FSX helo that, say, auto-rotates realistically) and those cheats are implemented in the UH1_SYSTEM gauge outside the normal flight model. It sounds like in your case the "cheat" code might not functioning. If it auto-rotates with a realistic rate of descent of around 1000 FPM or not, we will know. Without our code working behind the scenes, it will fly like a glider with no engine power - like almost any FSX helo (try the defaults.)
