Help to install please

Post by herky » Mon Mar 16, 2020 4:02 pm

Hi, I have purchased the UH-1 from Just Flight.

Over the weekend I tried to install it. I fear I have failed.

Firstly, my P3dv4.5 HF2, (Prepar3D_v4_Academic_4.5.13.32097) is installed onto the F drive. This was my initial error months ago. I did not make a folder for P3d, instead I installed it into F, all of the install is on F drive.

I have many add ons, all of which installed correctly into F drive. Encountering no difficulty whatsoever until now.

The Milviz installer stopped at "Setup". Setup install box is greyed out. Destination folder shows F:\ in the panel. So it appears it cant see my P3d install. I tried adding a folder "UH1", but all the installer does is install SimObjects, + effects folders in the UH1 folder. SimObjects contains Rotorcraft. Rotorcraft contains the three UH1 folders, Base C and H models.

When I run P3d the Milviz Huey doesn't show up.

So I tried manually copying the Base, C and H folders into the P3d SimObjects Rotorcraft folder. I got the sim to load, but there is strange effects. The MVAMS is completely ignored. The engine is running despite Cold and Dark selected. The rotor blade is a frozen graphic, but I can hear the engine sound.

Appcrashview, I include a couple of reports here;

The GTN gauge is not installed. When I try to run it with the Milviz gauges and WX I get a CTD.

Can anyone help with the installation as I think this is the problem here?

can you confirm that your Huey has been installed here:
F:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_Bell_UH1C
And that the root folder is the one containing your P3D program?

Yes both UH1C and H and the base model are in the above folder. But I have everything in F drive, so there is no Lockheed Martin\Prepare3dv4 folders. There is just Simobjects and Rotorcraft folders.
Yes the root folder, in my case the F drive, contains my P3d.exe and all the rest of P3d.

I don't have Lockheed Martin \p3d folder. I had to input that into the installer. All that did was get the installer to create those folders and place Simobjects and Rotorcraft in there. This doesn't get P3d to load the Huey.

I installed the entire P3d into F. There is no LM or P3d folder. Therefore it would go F\simobjects\rotorcraft.

Other, all my other add ons, have correctly installed into F drive. They seem to know where my P3d exe is. Some install into the F Simobjects, some like A2A install into the P3dv4 add-ons folder on the C drive. I tried directing the Milvis installer to the add-ons folder, it installed everything into there. But that didn't work either. P3d just ignored the Milviz Huey. It's as if your installer doesn't detect my P3d install.

My manual attempts to copy and paste folders worked 1% of the time with horrible results, obviously not installed correctly.

Thanks.

Due to the nature of our custom programming the helo must always be installed within the root folder structure of P3D like so:
F:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_Bell_UH1C

So due to my installing P3d directly into the F drive, the Milviz installer won't work?

Is there a workaround?

The only way it will work is to install it so that it is P3D root folder like so
{YOUR DRIVE}:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_Bell_UH1C

There is no workaround. The helo must be able to access the P3D program directly and all the links within the helo are fixed, so as soon as you change the relationship between the program and the helo, everything stops working. Unfortunately it is not possible to change these internal links.

OK I have done this exactly. My F drive is as you stated.

F:\Lockheed Martin\Prepare3D v4\SimObjects\Rotorcraft\MILVIZ_Bell_UH1C (copied as text from the sim)

Installation appeared to go well this time. Installer worked.

Ran the Huey and CTD. Every model CTD. With or without GTN CTD. here is the appcrashview log.

Your P3D is set to run as admin? Also please find the weather.dll in your P3D main folder and right click on it, select properties->Details and post the version number.

Yes my P4d is set to admin. It's removed from my virus checker as is everything in the Flight sim drive. The weather WX is the latest version.

Further trouble showed up. Namely, the MVAMS was not setting up any GTN. That was the rare occasion I managed to get the Huey loaded.

Eventually, even after reallocating my entire F SSD drive to the specifications required by the MV installer, it repeatedly CTD.

After more than two dozen attempts and appcrashviews, I have surrendered? Restructuring my P3d install into folders on F SSD , was causing other add on issues.

Many thanks for all your help, but the only chopper I'll be flying is in DCS.

Best regards and thanks again, your help was appreciated.

David
