Guns working but not visually?

I just bought the P-38 and I have noticed that the guns have no effects, be it sound or visual. I have noticed however that they do work, where I can see the hits register on the ground and I have also been able to shoot a plane down, just cant see or hear the firing effects. I saw there is a hotfix posted above. Is this what it covers? Thanks.
