Great News For Engine Starts!!

Post by Sabreliner » Sun Apr 24, 2016 8:17 pm

Hello, I have found a very good and consistent means of starting the engine on this chopper! I spent 3 days trying to iron out a good consistent start but could not get a good one using the various methods recommended on here and youtube (and there's a few!). Here goes:

1) Battery On, Fuel Control In, Key On, Start Pump On (NO GENERATOR)

2) Set throttle to cutoff (White collar up, engine fail light on left side of caution lights On).

3) Hold start switch.

4) SLOWLY (I do mean SLOWLY) increase throttle. After about a few seconds you should hear the collar snap and then a few seconds later you should light off, I can't stress SLOWLY enough.

5) As soon as light off occurs, STOP moving the throttle until 15% NG. Once that happens you can increase throttle again at a smooth rate. I set TOT to 800 degrees.

6) With the starter button still engaged, wait till you hear the secondary fuel nozzles kick in around 30% NG. Once this happens, count 1 second and release the starter.

7) If you forget to follow a procedure, like me for example who recently hit the starter button with the throttle NOT in cutoff, just let the NG decay and build up to idle power ~60% NG. If you shut down again and repeat the above steps it should work.

Using this method, I had at least 30 consistent good starts. I hope this works for others and am curious if it works for anyone else.

I never mess with the white collar on the collective, I roll the throttle off, turn on the key, red fuel button, master and fuel pump. Then I click the start button once and when ng reaches 15% I add some throttle. When the tot climbs into the green I add enough throttle to keep the tot just below the first red mark. when the secondary nozzles kick in the tot will drop back into the green I then add a little more throttle and the engine spools up nicely. When the NG gets into the green I can chop the throttle back to the idle stop. Sometimes the start button will stay down.....when that happens I wait until the tot goes in to the green then I click the start button to release. I get a good start everytime.

I've had basically no success. I'm at a rate of 5 successes in 40 attempts. Honestly, guys, the smug reaction customer reports about this issue is particularly frustrating. Seems like consistency is not the issue. Can we get a patch that takes all timing out of it and simply initiates a lightoff when the twist-grip is rolled off idle?? I have the 407 and love it...no issues to speak of.

Have a fresh install of v160116. Tried applying the MD530.cab file to the Gauges folder from the autostart patch, didn't seem to change anything. I've tried all techniques recommended here, and I've watched the video. I mapped a controller button for the starter as described...I've clicked the starter once...I've clicked and held the starter. I've disconnected my controls. I've disabled FSUIPC. I've disabled weather. I've loaded the default flight before the MD530...specifically, I reload a default aircraft between every attempt...trike, Baron, C172, B206, EH101...doesn't matter. Sometimes I completely reload FSX between attempts. Every time I got a successful start--for whatever reason--I would fly for a bit, then land and shut down, and even though it worked the first time, I wouldn't be able to duplicate the start. What more am I supposed to do?

FSX Acceleration
Windows Vista
FSUIPC 4.955

Got mine starting every time now. I used FSUIPC and the macro that is mentioned in the 530 startup video. That is used to assign a joystick button to the start button. The problem that I found is that if you get to 15% on the N1 and slowly increase the throttle, you must immediately release the start button. Without having that key assignment so that you can release from your joystick, by the time you release it on the collective, the start function gets shut down.

I posted this on the regular 530 forum.

Got the start up problem of t he 530 F solved completely. I followed this video and at the end of the video they tell you about a Macro that you can download if yo have FSUIPC, to toggle the start button on and off with a joystick key. This made the difference,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKXTK7aRvOw
1 Follow the normal start setup.
2. Press the joystick key that you set with the macro, and watch N1 carefully, when it hits 15%, open the throttle slowly and watch TOT, and it will start to climb. As soon as you are past 15% and you see TOT start to rise, hit the button you have assigned for the starter to toggle it back off. ( It's important that you set this to toggle, not just on. ) Now increase you throttle to keep TOT around 600 degrees, once that happens, there is no way it will shut down again. Keep increasing throttle slowly until it is on full. It now starts for me every time.

Here is the link for the macro. http://www.milviz.com/filesfordownload/ ... _guide.rar

I also have the Macro assigned and it works - partially.
As mentioned above it does no always release when released.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks :-)

make sure you press starter again when it gets to just over 15%.

I don't know what to say For two HOURS I have been tring to start the 530. I have read manual I have watched the video I have read the forums.
Still no go. Looked all over the site and no good link for the starter micro. Great stuff you guys are making, but please help us starter challenged pilots have an easier way to start.

I had this knacked on fsx, but now on win10/p3dv4 i'm stumped again. I've done all the tricks and jumped all hoops mentioned above to get her started, but no... rpm goes to 40 drops, goes, drops, goes, but 2nd ignition never seems to take.

Come on milviz, cant you insert a simple piece of code telling the starter button to disconnect as soon as n1 hits 15% and fuel is added by the pilot? This great helo is unflyable for me in this state.
