Cannot Load approaches on direct flight [Answered]

I am in the Air KA350 on P3D 5.2HF1 (although that does not matter)

1. I put in the init Pos
2. Push D and entered KLAS
3. EXEC and the plan follows the path to LAS Vega

This is where it gets odd

1. I press DEP/ARP and I need to enter KLAS for the Arrive (even though you would think it would know that)
2. All the approaches and stars are seen
3. Selecting one on anything of them does nothing, so there is no way to put in a approach for direct flights

This works fine if I had a Departure and Arrival airport has someone else ran into this as well.

Hi,

You always need a Departure and Arrival airport for DEP/ARR procedures to work. If you are departing and arriving at the same airport, just put the sama code in ORIGIN and DEST fields, then load a Departure procedure and the Arrival/Approach wanted.

Ok, so I am in flight and have no flight plan put into the FMS flying VFR. I can enter current position and KSAN San Diego as a destination and now there is a flight plan. I can press DEP/ARR and I see the stars and approaches. I just cannot select them.

I will put in a departure and a destination. Then on the way change the destination to my alternate airport and do a direct to. Then see if I can enter a new approach. This aircraft was well designed so maybe I need to do some research on this FMC more, thanks

Ok so that did not help. I set a flight plan from KLAS to KTUS with sids and STARS. On the Way KTUS was closed so I was redirected to KPHX which is a class B. So I am just wondering how to enter a STAR for KPHX now. I did a Direct to KPHX and all that worked. So anyway, hopefully I am clear on what I am trying to do.

Even with a local flight I would put the Origin and Dest for the same airport, that way I can also load up a practice approach if needed. The Origin is optional, but you can not change that in-flight. To keep things simple, at least build a basic FP with origin and dest, then change as you did enroute. For the last flight, you could put KPHX as your alternate on the Flt Plan page or work with a Secondary flight plan.

I did not even thing of putting just the dest airport only in the flight plan, that seem to work. thanks for the hint
