I was flying into CYKL (Schefferville) recently, and I had chosen the RNAV for rwy 35 as approach. This is an LNAV only approach, but as I approached KEMBI (one of the transitions), "LPV TERM" lit up as amber just below the speed tape, and GP was shown as armed, but amber. The GP did not activate, but the autopilot started the descent down to the MDA as a normal VNAV.

Is this how the KA behaves IRL? The approach isn't an LPV at all, why would it show GP and LPV TERM? Note: This flight was done on .29. I am now on .30 and have not yet tested this approach.

I continued my trip through Canada and looking at my approaches into CYIO, I have the following data in the FMS (latest AIRAC data from Navigraph):


As you can see it says LPV in the APPR VNAV GP field, which is incorrect - the airport does not have an LPV, as can be seen on the chart for the approach:

Is the King Air creating LPV approaches out of thin air from RNAVs?

Hi,

With the info Navigraph is currently providing, we cannot differentiate RNAV approaches as being LPV, GPS or other type. In consequence we decided to treat all as LPV for now.

However, those that are not real LPV, or any LPV with incomplete info, displays in amber and GS arms also in amber, meaning VGP is not available and the approach must be flown using Baro VNAV standard procedures.
