Post by ctmcewan » Thu Jun 11, 2020 8:26 am

Hello,

Can I prog the FMS AND CARRY OUT OTHER non taxi /before T/O tasks with the GPU only connected, presume battery must be on don't see any GPU Switch or connection indication?

Yes, you need to go to the menu (Add-ons -> King Air 350i -> Set/Remove GPU) to call the GPU. Switch on battery, check for the external power light to be lit on the lower annunciator:

Then switch on the EXT PWR switch next to avionics master switch:

You also need avionics master on to do any FMS work.

Do not forget the gen tie switch. Connects both busses and you have power to all systems.

Remember after shutting everything down again the FMS will keep its data for 10 min (or was it 11?). After that it’s gone.

Actually with GPU power Gen Tie closes automatically, making power available to all buses.

When there is Battery power only then yes, Gen Tie switch must be moved to MAN CLOSE to link all electrical buses (beware this will produce a high discharge rate of the battery).

FMS data is retained for ~ 11 minutes while not powered.

Not to hijack the thread, but can this reset be forced in some way, or is it impossible to do even on the real world aircraft? Sometimes I want to get going ASAP, but I'd rather have everything cleared up :)

No, it can't be reset in the sim, not even in RL unless you trip some CBs (which is not simuated in our KA).

Now I wonder why you would want to reset it? Just to remove any FP already loaded? Or I am missing your point?

There are some minor issues when trying to fly two or more succeeding legs, e.g. the flight log can't be reset, stepping through waypoints (with MFD in PLAN mode) doesn't work, or TCAS symbols showing false climb/descent information.

For this, it really would be nice to be able to reset all PL21 components without having to restart the whole simulator.

Hi,

Stepping through waypoints in PLAN mode works fine, you need to use MFD ADV button in CDU.
And TCAS climb/descend information is of course simulated, so cannot be false as there is no real pilot on the other plane.

Anyway, the simplest method to "reset" the FMS is to completely remove the active Flight Plan. This is done by deleting the Origin Airport in FPLN page.

Yes, it works fine on the first leg. Once a new flight plan is entered after landing, it doesn't work anymore.

AI-Targets (and therefore VATSIM-Traffic) are shown correctly, however, sometimes the arrow next to the target (that indicates if this target is climbing or descending) is always showing "up". The relative altitude (+ or -) is shown correctly. I did observe that this bug happens usually after a turnaround without shutting down.

Cheers!

It is correct that I can just clear the current flight plan, but that does not clear the FLT LOG page. Only way for that to be cleared is to wait the 11 minutes without power. Expected behaviour is that it would clear when I enter a new departure ICAOO, but I haven't sat in the real KA so I don't know what happens.

It works fine for me. I fly APT1/APT2 flight plan, once arrived into APT2 I load APT2/APT3 flight plan and PLAN mode shows new fp correctly, including wpt centering with MFD ADV keys.

Hmmm. Logic for TCAS is independent of turnarounds. In any case, might be P3D AI info being delivered. Never noticed that, though I'll try to check it again.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response!

Regarding MFD PLAN:
That's interesting, at the next turnaround I will take a closer look if I can narrow it down.
Honestly I just took this "bug" for granted and never really looked into this closely.

Regarding TCAS:
I only fly online on VATSIM, but I guess the pilot client is just injecting AI traffic, so it should be the same with P3D generated traffic. I'll make a video next time I notice this issue!

By the way: is there a way to reset the FLIGHT LOG page during the turnaround before the next leg?
