Throttle axis calibration and use

Post by alehead » Mon May 18, 2020 10:41 pm

It is me again, still having an odd issue with completely uneven travel of my two throttle levers. I set the values manually in the axis.cfg file, as I followed Chris' advice with the TQ6+.

What I noticed is that the left throttle lever in cockpit moves differently. The two axes are at the same point in cockpit and in real hardware at idle, which has the tooltip value 64 or around there in my setup. However, when I move the hardware levers together, the two sim levers move at different rates. below idle, the right lever in sim moves faster down, so I enter reverse earlier on the right engine. It is as if there are different curves and that the right axis is not linear, as it also advances to full throttle faster. The two levers stop at the same point at both ends of travel, so the upper and lower limits are fine, there just seem to be uneven rates of lever movement.
Now the oddest thing I noticed: You can delete all the values for the various detent stops completely for Throttle2, but it STILL WORKS... as if the sim is not reading those values at all and just using the Throttle1 values. This means I cannot effect any change as to where Throttle2 should be stopping on the detents...

Try it out, delete the Throttle2 settings if you have a twin-lever setup like a TQ6 or something. I would be interested to hear what you find.

If you set the values manually, make sure you use the actual physical values of the respective lever, as seen within FSUIPC.
Sometimes, within the Hardware the hall sensors or potentiometers are not aligned exactly the same for all levers, giving different values at the same physical lever position.

Also, the calibration within Window's "USB Gamecontroller" dialogue play a role here.

As for deleting sections, maybe there's a fallback in the code, that uses the "Throttle1" if "Throttle2" is not available.

Cheers,
Chris

I was thinking that about a fallback in the code as well. The same way if Throttle1/2 don't exist, it defaults to Throttle, which automatically gets written by the routine if allowed to operate normally... as I was also thinking about the absolute alignment of the Hall effect sensors in the TQ6+ (which you can clearly see if you look at the absolute values for the levers' positions. Max/Min are 16384/-16383 but the detent on the top of the REVERSE section on the

The thing is Chris, if I change only the values on Throttle2 and leave Throttle1 alone, there is no change to the Throttle2 positions in the sim. That is what confuses me. I have the two sections but can only change the lever positions in sim if I make changes to Throttle1.

You have -300(1) and -500(2) for your beta positions and 4349 as idle for both levers. The in-sim levers for me are far enough apart (3-4%) to cause real issues when reverse kicks in, as the right engine reverses first and yaws the plane to the right quite harshly. I am trying to match the engine differences in this region the closest, as it is in this region that the subtle power changes for all ground operations occur.
