How to cancel VNAV

Hi there I am in the descent using VNAV and get vectors by atc. I go to heading select and v/S however it still wants to follow VNAV preselected altitudes etc. I can’t seem to disconnect the fms settings and manually take over altitude and descent control.
Can anyone help in this regard.

Hi,

Just press VNAV button again. Following vertical modes will have the initial "V" removed.
