Switching FMS to LOC guidance

Post by metzgergva » Mon Jan 13, 2020 2:50 pm

Following sitiation I need help on:
Approaching an airport with FMS control. The LOC is autotuned and appears in blue with CRS and deviation as dashed symbols. If all is okay from altitude, you can leave it and the ILS mode will take over on due time.
Now, in case I'm too high and would need to make a little deviation from actual FMS track, I would take over in HDG and then switch to LOC mode later. But in this situation the switching between FMS and an automatically activated ILS mode on standby is not possible as the top left key on the MFD has no function anymore, while before catching the ILS it would be possible to switch between FMS and ILS mode while flying in HDG mode.

Any help to get out of that automatic flight under FMS with LOC on standby? The situation was as below.

I tried to change via HDG as NAV is active, but that did not change the active NAV source display in the PFD. None of the left side buttons on the PFD are available to switch NAV source.

Or did you mean the CRS1 button to push?

The same button you push in order to display bearing needles. Push that button and from its sub-menu you can also change nav-source. It is labeled "Nav/brg" and located right of the PFD.

It should still work by pressing LSK 1L. I thought they fixed that bug.

Hi,

Just follow pic example:

- Press 1 - Nav/Bearing menu displays
- Press 2 - Nav Source - Possible results: a) If Nav Source was already selected, pressing 2 will change to different nav sources. b) if Nav Source was not the current menu, first will become the selected, and pressing again will change to different sources.

- Rotate (3) to change to different nav sources, same as pressing 2. Use it if sources do not change with pressing 2.

Hello Tomas, just look at the screen I posted. There is no < sign next to LSK1 when that situation occurs. Therefore no window opening up there and no swapping possible.

You won't have LSK1 available when LOC is armed, but you can always press NAV/BEAR button (1) to display navigation menu and from there change the current nav source as descripted.
