[howto] Initialize and enable TAWS system
In order to enable Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS+) that is included in this model, we need to tell the airplane where it is located. This will initialize terrain and obstacle databases. We have to do this step, even for VFR flight, without specific flight plan. Otherwise system will not function.
So we have to go to the FMS and initialize position first. To access POS INIT page we can use 2 keystrokes: IDX->POS INIT or access it directly from the STATUS page when FMS comes alive.
If airplane has moved more that 40nm from last position, we need co confirm position once again, when RESET INITIAL POS will appear in the message line at the bottom.
Then we can enable terrain view on any of the screens. We need to push 2nd selector key on the right side of the screen, until TERRAIN is shown in cyan. After initial scan that takes some seconds, we should see the map also various callouts can be issued in potentially dangerous situation. TAWS warnings will be provided even if "radar" view is inactive on displays.
But who guesses how can the system test be launched? This is quite tricky - press and hold the GS INHB button (top left of the 4 buttons between left (PFD) and middle display (MFD). Then test should start. Multiple error messages will be displayed, but when test is passed, you will hear aural "TAWS system test ok" announcement.
