NAV/GPS switch [Answered]

Post by Francis-C » Wed Jun 17, 2020 4:56 pm

A silly question: I can't find the switch or button to choose between NAV or GPS in KA350i front or other panels. What do I miss? As a result, I have not yet succeeded to have autopilot working. Very frustrating indeed.

Hi,

There is no NAV/GPS switch. NAV button in Autopilot panel is used to steer the aircraft according to the current Flight Plan.

Would be possible that you are intending to use any of Garmin GTN models on this King Air?

Thanks for your reply. No, I don't intend to use Garmin GTN models; I only use flight plans that can be directly settled in P3D v4....and from which I have not succeeded so far to have autopilot working...Thanks again

The avionic system used within the MilViz King Air is an in-depth simulation of the Collins Proline 21 and has to be used just like the real thing. So, simply loading a P3D default flight plan and put the autopilot to GPS mode to follow it, does not work.

The handling of this aircraft is fundamentally different from default FSX/P3D planes or low level add-ons with limited system simulation (or without any at all).

I'm not exactly sure what would be the best way to start learning to operate such a realistic flight management system, but I think there are some YouTube videos out there (linked on the product page of the MVKA), I hope those help to give you a brief idea of how you have to work with this plane.

Flying this aircraft might involve a steep learning curve if you're coming from default planes, but it's really worth the effort!

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for your reply. Now, I understand the problem. My only regret is that Milviz has not implemented an option for "beginners", to allow using the default P3D NAV/GPS system along with default P3D flight planner...In fact, I have noticed that if I start a planned P3D flight with the default P3D KA 350 and then commute the plane to the Milviz KA350, autopilot is still operating and can be disengaged or re-engaged without problem. So, it seems to me that including the option to use the P3D NAV/GPS system may not have been so difficult to achieve. But, as you say, I can still start learning the more realistic KA350i navigation system....

Cheers,
Françis

For that "beginners" option you have Carenado's KA350, which is more for players rather than simmers, being more "basic" and not having some real features.
