Unable to install XMLTools [Resolved - Corrupted dll.xml]

Post by alex.fluglotse » Sat Sep 05, 2020 9:34 am

Hey there,

in addition to my last post, I've now sorted out the problem. During the Pre-installation Phase there is an error coming up with the XMLTools installer.

[ERROR] Prepar3D v5 installation failed: System.Xml.XmlException: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(String res, String arg)
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseRootLevelWhitespace()
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseDocumentContent()
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read()
at System.Xml.XmlReader.MoveToContent()
at System.Xml.Linq.XElement.Load(XmlReader reader, LoadOptions options)
at System.Xml.Linq.XElement.Load(String uri, LoadOptions options)
at XMLToolsInstaller.MainWindow.InstallTo(SimulatorVersion version, String path)

Unfortunately I don't know why this happen nor I don't know how to resolve it. I found the different topics about the problems with the XML-Tools, but I don't see the mistake I do.

Greetings

Alex

Hi Alex. Is this for V4 or V5 or do you have both installed?

Hello!

My first post here.
So, after buying this aircraft via ORBX and being unable to use controls (dual Saitek Quadrants - 1+2 Throttle + 1 Prop / 2 Prop + 1+2 Mix) and being unable to power up the aircraft and doing extensive research here in the forums, I found out that the ORBX installation didn't install XMLTools and didn't include its installation executable, so... Downloaded the Milviz Setup found here in the forum. Now I have XMLTools executable, but... I am being unable to install it on P3Dv4.5.12.32097, although the error is slightly different from Alex's. Here's the log of XMLTools installation:

[ERROR] Prepar3D v4 installation failed: System.Xml.XmlException: The 'SimBase.Document' start tag on line 2 position 2 does not match the end tag of 'Launch.Addon'. Line 18, position 6.
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(String res, String[] args)
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ThrowTagMismatch(NodeData startTag)
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseEndElement()
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.ParseElementContent()
at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Read()
at System.Xml.Linq.XContainer.ReadContentFrom(XmlReader r)
at System.Xml.Linq.XContainer.ReadContentFrom(XmlReader r, LoadOptions o)
at System.Xml.Linq.XElement.ReadElementFrom(XmlReader r, LoadOptions o)
at System.Xml.Linq.XElement.Load(XmlReader reader, LoadOptions options)
at System.Xml.Linq.XElement.Load(String uri, LoadOptions options)
at XMLToolsInstaller.MainWindow.InstallTo(SimulatorVersion version, String path)

Some help would be appreciated as I am excited to try this bird and include it on my private fleet! (Been using the simpler but not as detailed Carenado version until now)

Looks like it can't write to dll.xml or exe.xml. I suspect that one of those are corrupted or has a typo in it.

Can you navigate to
Local Disk (C:) ► Users ► You ► AppData ► Roaming ► Lockheed Martin ► Prepar3D v4 ("you" is your windows username)

Copy the dll.xml and the exe.xml and email them to me or post them here?

Hello and thanks for your quick reply.
After many hours and before I saw your answer, I finally managed to get it installed. Maybe I did some cheating, but as a matter of fact it worked.
Here's what I did:

1) Did a backup of dll.xml at "Users > (MyName) >(...) and deleted the file in there.

2) Launched P3D expecting the file to be created.
2.1) Closed the simulator again.

3) Tried installing XMLTools, still being unable due to the same error.
3.1) Replaced the newly created dll.xml with the one I backed up in the first step.
----------
Repeated steps 1-3, but this time with the file at ProgramData > (...)

XMLTools finally installed. I added the lines of the backed up dll.xml to the newly created one, launched P3D and found that it indeed now works as expected :D

Good to hear you are sorted. Some addons have been known to break the files. 1 typo and they will not work.
