MVAMS Phantom updates failing
Hi,
I am having issues at the moment with the update function of the MVAMS program. It is telling me there are updates available for both Phantoms I have installed, and I start the download for the update, but it never completes. The furthest I have got so far is about half way, with an .exe file around 130 MB visible in the downloads folder. This is after leaving it go for hours at a time. I have a maximum download speed of around 20Mbps, although I don't always get that, but I can download everything else, and I have been downloading and installing multiple GB size files recently in fairly short time.
As an example right now it has been running for around 45 minutes and the size of the download is 9.6 MB, and the last time the file was modified was 20 minutes ago. I just ran an internet speed test while it was downloading and I got 20Mbps.
The download will get stuck after barely downloading anything at times, and I have now re-tried downloading the updates about 10 times.
The only Anti-virus I use is Microsoft Security Essentials, and that never causes issues with downloads.
Any suggestions what the problem could be?
Cheers,

Re: MVAMS Phantom updates failing
Possibly server glitches. I live in South Africa (not exactly the best internet in the world) and in my tests I was able to download files successfully.
If anyone else wants to try, go to your AMS directory\Versions\F4E(or F4J or F4S) and open one of the XML files located there in notepad and subtract 1 from the last digit of the version number. That will trigger the AMS to download the latest update when you open the F-4 config in the AMS again.
If push comes to shove though I will get you direct download links to the latest installers though.

Re: MVAMS Phantom updates failing
Thanks for the reply Jonathan.
To be perfectly honest I have been having glitches with my internet, and it will keep dropping out when I download from some locations, but will be perfectly fine with other downloads and with the browser. Strangely at times I can get a failing download to work if I download another large file alongside it, like the larger file is keeping a path open for the failing download. I tried this several times yesterday, trying to download the Phantoms while I was using FTX Central to download scenery, but that wasn't working at all. FTX Central was also dropping out at times.
I am trying now, downloading alongside a 2GB scenery download, and it is the furthest I have got so far. Yesterday the download would just stop, and I even got the message that the installation failed after it tried to install from 16MB exe file. Right now I have 15Mbps Network I/O (from Resource Monitor) and the rate for MVAMS is between 150,000 and 200,000 B/sec. It actually seems to be getting somewhere now. Pity I have to download very large files alongside it to do so
I guess I need to sort my intermittent wi-fi adapter out.
Cheers,

Re: MVAMS Phantom updates failing
No, it has stopped dead again. MVAMS has the bar which makes it look like something is happening, but it has stopped downloading completely. The file size is at 223,245 kb, and it has not changed for 30 minutes.
Resource Monitor shows there is no activity from MVAMS.
It has not yet tried to install the stopped download, but it also does not want to continue with the download. It is not just slow, it has stopped completely.

Re: MVAMS Phantom updates failing
I have managed to get the F-4E Phantom download to complete. I then saved this file and renamed (MilViz F-4E Phantom II vA1.171220_E, because that was the title when I ran it). I ran this installer from it's new location on my PC, and it all installed OK, but strangely the MVAMS then told me there was an update available when opened it, despite just installing the newest version. Not a real problem as far as I can see, as I have the Phantom E installed and the Tac Pack addon installed also.
I am still attempting to get the F-4J/S latest file downloaded. I ended up downloading the F-4E while simultaneously downloading a very slow, large download from Simviation (245 MB at an average of 50 kb/s) as this was the only way to keep the MVAMS download going for long enough for the download to complete. iam trying the same method now to get the F-4J/S installer.
Cheers,

Re: MVAMS Phantom updates failing
The request for the second update would be for the TACPACK addon.
