F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
I recently acquired F-4 JS and am having an issue with the engine start up from cold and dark.
I follow the procedure closely as in the manual. The first engine either left or right starts normally . All indicators show normal . The second engine upon starting immediately overheats and the fire indicators illuminate for that engine .
It does not matter which engine I star first left or right the other overheats and catches fire.
Any advice would be welcome.

Re: F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
Disable the ADV features and see if you can start the engines.
If I recall correctly, Right Engine should be started first
Try the following...
1. Connect GPU
2. Request Airflow Start
3. Right Engine Master ON
4. Right Gen Down position
5. Start Switch to the right
6. Engine spool (Dont recall the temp, but some 10 seconds should be enough)
7. Push right throttle forward
Repeat for Left Engine
After both engines are running, move the Gens to the UP position (ON)

Thank you Sergio for your insight .Have managed the start up without bursting into flames . Now all I have to do is get it off the ground and into the air without running out of runway and yes you guessed it Bursting into flames.
This is such FUN.
Thanks again
Brian.

Are you running EzDok? If you are disable it as it clashes with our external flight model.

Re: F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
Thank you for the info
Yes I have EZDOK installed .Turned it off but still crash and burn attempting to take off. Doing all that the manual says re flaps and slats etc.
Cant for the life of me work out what I am doing wrong But Will keep at it till I succeed. At least I don't catch fire at start up any more.
Also does the Phantom support 2 throttles .I have the Saitek X55 Rhino and cant get left and right throttles to work separately .
Once again Thanks
Brian

Re: F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
Instructor Mode is turned on .Only msg received is that my nose wheel has blown .doing 270Knts down the runway will do that. Nothing else.
Don't know where to go now .I have done all the uninstall and re-install with newly downloaded software . Verified my FSX-SE files .
Nothing gets me airborne.
Got me beat.
IDEAS?
thanks

I'm still having to question if your EzDok is truly disabled. It is known to prevent our aircraft from getting off the ground.

Re: F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
If the ADV dll is correctly loaded (instructor messages are displayed, so it is) and you still cannot take-off, then something is preventing the ADV writting the speeds in the sim. The only known "interaction" causing this is EZDok...addon that you have installed.
I agree with Jon, EzDok must not be truly off. Maybe if you uninstall it and test?
Also, what other addons do you have installed?

Re: F-4 JS Engine fire on Startup
Good Evening Gentlemen.
SUCCESS!!
EZDOK was the culprit. Clicking the disable button in the addon menu failed to actually disable EZDOK. I was hesitant about uninstalling it as it can be a bit of a bugger with reinstalling so I went into the FSX.cfg file and disabled the ezdok entries . This made sure that it did not load at all.
Much trepidation as I approached the take off point on the runway at Miramar , advanced the throttle and lifted off as per the manual .Flew a wide circuit and landed roughly but safely.
Not having EZDOK makes it a bit tricky to move around the cockpit . Is there any addon like Track IR that doesn't screw with the aircraft .
Once again Gentlemen Thank you for you expertise in getting me flying. As a Vietnam Vet the Phantom was a welcome sight in the sky and I can now enjoy trying to fly her.
Kindest regards
Brian
PS. any thoughts that could assist me to be able to operate the two throttles independently.

Chase plane makes a good ezdock replacement. As for throttles, haven't you assigned them separately in FSX?
