Wpns computer

Post by WilliamG » Thu Sep 08, 2016 4:22 pm

I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the Dive laydown and laydown bombing.
I have mastered the A to A and Dive toss techniques but despite watching the tutorial and reading the TP manual I don't see where one gets the range information to input into the rear seat weapons release computer.
I understand the bombing triangle and what the information is, I just don't see how I get the range information.
One odd thing I notice is my green bombing computer is not green, it is light grey.

The light grey is intentional. The range information is the distance value at the bottom of the bombing computer section. If you change the release parameters (altitude, speed, angle, weapon type) you will see the distance value at the bottom changing. That is the value you will enter into the release range (the righthand range counter). In dive laydown, you get your initial range to the target from the A-G radar. In Laydown mode, your initial target distance is a preset value that you decide. The difference between your target altitude and run-in/release altitude (since you will be flying level) is then used along with the initial target distance to calculate the Mils setting of the gunsight, so that when you are at that initial target distance, the gunsight pip will be on the target. Then you press and hold the pickle button until the bombs come off at your release range. So in laydown mode, you are simply using visual techniques to calculate your distance to the target and know when to hold the pickle button so the release computer can count down your distance to the target and release the weapon at the right point.

I think I have the Dive Laydown more or less figured out. I think I understand the laydown but I have yet to get the bombs to leave the aircraft. I am not all that broken up about it though.
I seem to remember a short mention of manual bombing on the direct setting. I believe that would more suite my low altitude pop up attacks more than the laydown anyway.
It this something that you guys simulated? If so is there a table of Mil settings?

One thing that is weird in my testing is there is one bomb load that seems to have become default. It is loaded every time I load the aircraft including external tanks that are empty.
It is no big deal since clearing the load resets things, I was just surprised to see it happen since I don't see such an option like the F-100 has.

You guys have done a great job on this aircraft, I am really enjoying it!

Dive Toss and Dive Laydown and Laydown are all automatic release modes. They are similar to the AUTO mode in the superbug if I can put it that way but with more limitations and less accuracy in some respects. So you have to make sure you are holding the pickle button all the way down until the PULL UP light comes on. I don't recall if there is a Mil settings table released but will find out.

As for the default bomb load, if you saved a flight at some point that is what it will be. Although I recommend cycling your cold and dark/ready to fly settings if you want the INS already aligned because otherwise it is going to be saved to your last position.
