Last Pan Am's livery almost done

Post by DrStrangepool » Fri Jul 22, 2016 1:50 am

After a few days banging my head with the paintkit, and an enormous help from the template. I'm almost done with the Panam's last livery.
I've added a bit of metal finish at the bottom. I had a better metal texture, but it was giving me a massive problem with alignment, so I had to scrap it.

Added reflections as well, to use P3D's new dynamic reflection features, and worked on the windows. I was flying around in the other liveries and I always felt weird how, a few times, there was no window, or it looks so dull. So, that was worked on. I also worked on correcting the "shadow" over the wing and replaced it with a reverser dirt, and tried to make the seams and rivets less prominent. Also, made the general dirt on the plane a bit more "colorful". Because it should be a combination of fuel, dirt, and other bits and bobs, so it shouldn't be completely grey.

If I don't scrap something, or change anything, or find a mistake, I will upload this livery to avsim tomorrow.

Please, take it easy, it has been 13 years since I last did a repaint for Flight Simulator ;) ;)

While I'm at it...
I found a few issues while at it, the paintkit is missing the trim strip at the tail.

Corrected a few mistakes here and there, and I ended up using the metal image I created after all. Only for the specular maps, but it gave that extra oomph either way.

I've uploaded the file to Avsim, and as soon as they update it, I'll post the link here.

Very very nice job. I appreciate the challenge it would have been.

Thanks! I'm thinking of doing another one, but, one that uses some of the lines or patterns from PanAm, so I can avoid the full headache of alignment. Maybe Delta, or some other.

It seems Avsim rejected the file, since the new uploaded files doesn't show the one I sent. I sent the file to Avsim again.

So I decided to upload to MediaFire until they approve it at avsim.

Here it is.

Files uploaded over the weekend have not made it to the Front Page yet. The person responsible is out of contact until Monday.

Alright, here it is the repaint on avsim!

Interestingly enough, I'm doing a another one, from USAir metrojet(red livery) and I'm learning a few new things in the process. Maybe, in the future, I'll apply those new skills on the Pan Am livery. :)
