Problem in Redux Paint kit

Hopefully the pic will explain the problem. This image is simply the paint kit compiled in dds format - nothing was changed. If you can tell from the image the 3 marked items are "different" from the rest. They are all contained in ext_06.

Don't know enough to describe it properly but when I painted all parts using 000000 - those marked parts retained that difference - it's like the reflections are softer. No matter what I try, I cannot get those parts to match the rest of the model.

Have I missed something?

Thanx,

Vic

They're the anti ice boots, made of 'rubber'. In the PSD you can switch them off. Under 'details', it's called Layer 6 or something, I renamed it De-ice. Does that help?

That's not the issue Ron. The WHOLE WING and elevator is a different color. Are you saying that the AI boots will affect the colorization of the whole wing? If so, why didn't it affect the right side.

As I said, in the white version the textures are right out of the box but the difference remains in the black version.

Thanx,

Vic

Ahah! Couldn't see for looking. Now I get it. I was looking at where the arrows pointed. I've had a look at the two textures and all I can come up with is that maybe 'dirt' or some parts of dirt has been switched off on the lighter wing.

I tried everything I could think of and no matter the color or what was on/off - the relative difference remained. The fact that it's that way right out of the box makes me think it's an oversight in the original paint kit.

Just had a session of switching things on and off. The only thing I can find that make a difference is a group called shd (presumably shadows) Having them off makes for a lighter tone.
Since you brought this up I checked out all of my paints. Every one of them is the same and my shadows are both 'ON'. Not only that, the default paints are the same!
Perhaps the paint kit maker can throw some light (ouch!) on it?
This is reminiscent of the Beaver ailerons, same issue.

Thanx Ron - I appreciate the help. I'm just a beginner in painting so my first question is WTF did I do wrong.

Hopefully the paint maker will 'splain!

Hm, mine looks ok, but I had gone through my PSDs and set the dirty layer to the same opacity on all of them, because I wanted mine a bit less dirty. So maybe one had a lighter dirty layer by default?

I checked mine out in ModelConverterX, which I use while I'm painting.

[edit: changed 'value' to 'opacity' to make it clearer, sorry]
